That solo owns. It's probably the best metal solo ever. It was recorded in one take btw, "live" in the studio. That whole album was recorded that way, in a live band situation but in the studio of course.

Here it is ( the solo ) if anyone wants to hear it:

Great that you agree...but you cut off my favorite part at the end, right before the singer comes back in...

oh man, Testament put out some of the greatest stuff! Although I could have picked a better solo from that group, but still, great stuff!

That's why I said metal solo! I think it owns! Alex was like 20 years old then too, long before he got into jazz and left metal. Solo's like that shot from the hip back in the 80's always get me.

Eventhough much of his solor work was 'metal', he also had times when he really created art as well. I respect him greatly as a guitarist(one of my original heros and still is).

I also think the testament songs rythmicly have something to be respected about them as well.

Well Randy's solo on Mr. Crowley is one of the "fast" solos I've bothered to learn (I suck at it though ).

Usually I'm for slower solos like:

Mark Knopfler - many (Telegraph Road, Tunnel of Love, Sultans of Swing)
Petrucci - Spirit Carries On
Slash - November Rain
Dave Gilmour - many (Time, Comfortably Numb and Division Bell stuff)

I forgot this one:

Touching Tongues by Vai is one of my favorites. I have real hard time trying to play those whammy parts...

Check out the latest GP...Skolnik is now playing jazz and released a record with Scorpions & Sabbath tunes a la jazz. Go figure! Here it is:

I guess jazz has been considered pointless too. I was surprised to find it pretty cool.
Greg

PS - Shouldn't this thread have been named: "The best guitar solo in history, ever?"

Well, i'm split between Satriani's "Until We Say Goodbye" and "Secret Prayer." Both those kill me for different reasons...

That said, i also need to mention George Lynch's leads on Tony Macalpine's "Tears of Sahara"

If you haven't heard this one, you most likely won't believe me until you hear it, but:
