The Mars Volta
I just got the
Deloused in the Comatorium
disc, and its realy cool. I don't realy know what to compare it to, but I think some folks around here would like it.

I know my Music Appreciation teacher picked up this CD after we (the class) gave him a list of bands to check out. See, he's a jazz drummer, and mostly only listens to jazz, blues, etc. He doesn't like most rock music, but he does like Tool, The Tea Party, Deftones, and Mars Volta.
Shockingly, he found Soundgarden and Audioslave boring

I saw The Mars Volta in early 2003 and was well impressed. Practically all of the audience just saw there with mouths open, wondering what the hell was going on. I think I was the only one who loved it! I even got a video recording of the show that I've watched many times over. And everyone I've showed it to doesn't get it either, unless they're into jazz!
I finally got a promo copy of hteir album when it was ready. A friend of mine went to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers in June 2003 and The Mars Volta opened for them. She said they were "really weird" and that nobody really cared much; I figure most of the RHCP fans were looking to hear radio-friendly stuff and not music with balls!

LOL
Its probably the most
interesting
new music I've heard since first hearing Mr. Bungle. I realy like the way the guitar, bass, and drums work together. The vocals are also something you definitely don't hear much these days either.

I saw them open for RHCP and thought they were horrible (well, they at least sounded horrible...I blame most of it on the sound people though)...I only listened to a bit of the CD, so I can't form a decent opinion...I'd like to say they are a good band, but from what I heard so far, it seems like I just "don't get it"
Oh, and I'm a big Jazz fan. I also own and enjoy music by Mr. Bungle, Fantomas, Tomahawk and the like, and one of my favourite guitarists is David "Fuze" Fiuczynski

I enjoyed the 'ATDI' stuff that I heard-pretty raw, but I have to say the drummer impressed me most with ATDI rather than the singer and the weird guitarist...

Hmmmmm...
I don't really care for The Mars Volta but I just won tickets tonight to see them and A Perfect Circle on Monday here. I just entered the contest on a whim but, oh well. It'll be something to do.
I'm not a big APC fan either, anymore.

Muse
are
amazing!
Oh, and apparently Lars Ulrich said that seeing the drummer of The Mars Volta playing live, it made him want to give up drumming

Well, we can always hope.
I think Mars Volta is definitely the better of the two bands formed out of the ashes of ATDI, though I love Sparta as well.
The music is really impressive, and Cedric Bixler's voice is amazing...his control is crazy.

Maybe that's because...other than Morello's catchy riffs, they are boring.

I must admit that, while I loved "Cochise", "Show Me How To Live" and "Like A Stone", I'm not getting "I Am The Highway"...sounds too much like "Like A Stone", but worse.
