Question

They were all losers!

Has anyone noticed many of the best guitar players used to be loners or get severely picked on by other kids yet look at them now! They have rose above all the *******s and are now pleasing audiences world wide.

eg
Steve Vai- I have no proof but I am pretty sure he might have been a loner as a child or considered strange. He still is strange but its a mystique with him that makes him the 1 STEVE VAI!

Zakk Wylde- Used to never hang around with people used to sit locked up in his bedroom and play guitar 18 hrs a day!

Slash- Used to get bullied by his classmates but then became the coolest kid in school after mastering the guitar!

Many times

Actually, I read once when he was in high school after he had taken a couple lessons from Satch, that he saw a guitar and amp over in a corner in the gym. He went over and picked it up and started playing it. Then when he turned around ot his amazement there were a bunch of students (yes, most of them didn't like him) standing there with their mouths dropped open to the floor, lol. I think that was the beginning of him getting over the shy thing

Then I have a chance of being a great musician I am desperately shy. I had talked about this in techniques part. I just can't get over it... I cannot say I have a lot of friends as well...

both are better than 99% of the people who post here, IMO, and don't reven particularly care for Ozzy or GNR... I'd be MORE than happy to be as "good" as either, and while I still have a lot to learn, I'm not exactly hideous myself. Personal taste counts for a lot, of course, but skill is skill.

There are lots of individual things that add up to ability on guitar. The two major ones are genetics and practice. Geeks with no social life have the opportunity to practice a lot. Plus, it's a way to be cool without having athletic ability or good looks. Ever notice how many guitarists aren't particularly attractive?
