Timmons, Satriani, and Lynch at Dallas Guitar Show
Well, if you weren't at the Dallas Guitar Show this weekend, you missed quite a show.
First off, there were TONS of nice guitars, but very few Ibanez. Granted, these things are usually geared toward the vintage axe collectors/players, with an overabundance of Fender/Gibson gear (not that there's anything WRONG with that...), but it would have been nice to see some of the stores bring out more variety. ANYWAY...
Today was a killer lineup on the Peavey Stage. Starting at around noon,
Andy Timmons
came out and played one hell of a set. If you haven't seen him play, you're missing out. The guy is solid as a rock, and has such great feel. Texas blues to country to full-on shred. Unreal. Finsihed with "Groove or Die", which if you know his music, is quite an exercise.
Then Satriani came out and played to some backing tracks. Again, an unbelieveable performance. Looked like he was having a good time too. After he'd played a few solos, he had Andy Timmons come back out, along with a drummer and bassist from other bands (no idea who they were, sorry) and they jammed for three or four songs. It was so over the top watching these guys go note for note, trading leads, and obviously having a great time doing it. You could just tell they were having a blast, and the crowd absolutely ate it up. I'd love to have a tape of that jam for inspiration. Made me a little misty just watching it.... (snif)
Then, after a short pause, George Lynch came out and played. He started with "Mr. Scary", then did some blues jams. I dunno if he was in a bad mood or just hated the mix, but he didn't look too happy. Not his best performance, but he still tore it up. If I could play like he did on his worst day, I'd still be 100 times better than I am now. Pissed or not, it was still good to see him play.
Eric Johnson
was supposed to play this evening, but my schedule called me out before he got on. Maybe someone else at the show could give a review?
Hey, like I said, this is a great guitar event, and they have it every year. If you get a chance, check it out next year.

Indeed the show was great!!
Had a load of fun Friday nite and Saturday hanging back stage with Joe, Andy, Johnny A, Rhett Butler and many many more!!
Got to touch the infamous
Chrome Boy
too!
Schawing!!
I was at the backstage sound booth when George came thru the back door, I was introduced to him and he did seem a bit smug..
Even Sat before the show he was a bit smug.. I don't know what was up with him..
The only time he lit up AT ALL was when Joe said hello to him and they started in the"long time no see" conversation...
It was a great time and everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves...
it was nice to hang with Joe under non G3 stress circumstances..
Hope everyone else had a good time too!!
Rock on!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you sure it was Chrome Boy and not the new Alumaboy? I thought Joe didn't take Chrome Boy on the road any more.

Hmm.. Well, I havent seen Alumaboy..
Is it supposed to look just like chrome boy???
The guitar that I he used was the same one that Joe used in the
Peavey/Harmony Central Video from 2004 NAMM..
So, what ever the guitar, Chromeboy/Alumaboy...
Thats the one.

You can't miss chromeboy, it's got the clear vinyl glued between the pickups over the old glued seam where the chrome was peeling and lots of whittening from wearing through the chrome. Headstock has seen much better days too

I remember Joe made a comment during his performance on Sunday that the "chrome" guitar he was playing was the aluminum bodied one.

Ah, well that mustave been it then...
I was pretty busy just hanging out..
I didnt bother to ask Joe about the guitar, it just was sitting by me after the Joe/Andy finale.
ah, well, it was a looker nonetheless..
I guess Joe used the Alumiboy for the HC/PV video too as they were the same guitars from what I could tell ;-)
