Today is the big day for me.

I am hosting a Battle of the Christian Bands. I have 14 bands several hundred people. Tons of giveaways all day, $500 cash and trophies for the top 3 bands. I'm running sound, and playing with 2 bands. One is instrumental, we're doing 2 song we wrote, and one where going to wing from the stage. Just to see what happens. I'm using a rented mixer, because my "16 channel" Yamaha isn't really 16 channels. It only has 10 XLR' inputs. But I know my easy to use mixer. This rented thing is giving me more monitor sends, which I also need. But it has buttons I don't know what they're for. I hope I don't run the day by being an idiot. I love mixing though, and the Makie powered system rock. Also I'm playing with a band we threw together with a singer who we practiced with last night. She's sick and could barely sing. I'm praying she'll be much better today at 3 o:clock.

So we have free music and food all day, they announced at a local high school. (wasn't my idea) So we could run out, and we could have way to many people for our gym.

With all that, I don't know what to wear!! Tonight will be sweet bliss when all this is behind me. Months of planning and preparing and it'll all be over. I had to build a 16x20 stage too. And frame a projector mounted thing 25 feet up off a scaffold last week. Oh, and the VOX I just bought that is supposed to be used by everyone today? Just died last night. Wont even light up. Must be the transformer. But it stinks either way. So I made a all and have several different amps all showing up, none of which I've used.

I'll let ya know how it goes.

Linking back to your parenting thread, I can understand why.

No offence intended.

To put it simply, it's a Christian event. The bands were judged on their ability to lead worship from the stage.

To create a venue for young Christians to put down the game controller and get serious about their guitars.

Several of the bands were very beginner musicians. My son played in a band, he just started playing drums around Christmas, and he played great. It was held at our church.

Also, it was an evangelistic event. We had a guy give a short 15 minutes "Gospel" message.

In all honesty, the radio if full from one end of the dial to the other with music. VERY little of would be considered Christian music. There are bands playing ALL the time in local clubs etc around here. Pretty much non of it Christian. This was an opportunity to get Christians together for a day to play music, eat lots of great food, encourage one another and win a little cash and a trophy if your good enough. Some of the bands were very very good.

The count came in somewhere around 300 people.

In June, my kids and I are going to be playing for a 18th b-day party for one of their friends. I'm putting together an 80's set list for that. 80's music just seems to fit parties. It's fun stuff. 867-5309 , Hold on Loosely, some Bryan Adams, and this is kinda funny, Footloose. Not sure my kids even know the premise of the movie it's from.

So really, it's just day of Christian getting together and playing music. Although, I did pull together a few guys, on I played Jemfest with a couple times, and did some instrumental songs. We made it through 2 1/2 before the breaker went. I think it was the Laney the pushed it over the edge. Then I discovered I didn't have the lights and amps evenly spread over different circuits.

I wonder if anyone would be offended at an event where religious groups were explicitly banned from playing because of their belief....?

Re: Today is the big day for me.

It's so cool that my daughters play. They started on opposite instruments and they didn't really like it. The after a year or so of not really playing, they just naturally migrated to the other. My older 16 yo daughter Arin plays bass, and KelLee plays guitar. She really wants to be a shredder, but she's rather be texting her friends than running scales at this point. I'm not going to push her. She know part of Always with you Satch song, and loves playing it. I just showed her some of the Stairway to Heaven solo. She knows come country licks. It's not uncommon for her to lead the worship on Wed night youth nights. She's really a natural, she has a great sense of timing and feel for what fits. It's just a matter of time before she get really good. And she will, I have no doubt. My bass player daughter has a different issue. Playing bass by yourself just isn't that fun. People don't usually take a bass to a picnic or just sit on the porch and jam on the bass. So she doesn't get as much time on the instrument as I'd like to see her have. But she's playing well.

Thanks for answering Darin!

French churches would probably be more crowded with this kind of approach!

French churches? What do you mean? Like a cultural difference?

Re: Today is the big day for me.

Yes, sure! A major cultural difference!

I won't go too far on this topic since it can be a bit touchy. But basically, religious practices did not evolve that much in recent decades. I can still hear people blaming the Vatican to have authorized non-latine speeches in churches.

Anyway, nice event you got there.
