Vai & Furtado Question

I was surfing youtube last night and I came across Nellie Furtado & Vai performing I'm Like A Bird at the Grammys 5 years ago. I remember thinking when I originally saw it in 2002, "How did she manage to get him?!". Does anyone one know the story of how these two got brought together for the performance? It's not like she needed a hired gun of Steve's high calibur to play that song. Was she a Vai fan before hand and had her management call Steve's - maybe? I know Steve or anyone else for that matter would be dumb to turn down a Grammy performance. So, I certainly don't blame him for doing it...even though it was Nellie Furtado LOL.

Steve's a longtime and very active member of NARAS, the entity that puts on the Grammys. I'm sure that that had something to do with it

If I'm not mistaken, Steve was nominated that year (and maybe even won) for Whispering a prayer

Steve has been a trustee with NARAS for some time. The Grammy organization pitched the duet to Steve and Nelly, and the rest is history.

Did anyone catch Jeff beck with Kelly Clarkson, on Idol the other night. ( speaking of duets) He has such great tone.

How odd - -
I also saw this on youtube last night for the first time and wondered how it came to be.

This was the first time I've seen Steve in a supporting, secondary role on guitar and it was awesome - he sounded like a whole lot more than one guitar.
And live no less!
