Van Halen reunion

Well, might as well start a thread somewhere, it's going to get pretty big by summer

I did find this snippet on Steve Lukather's site though:

"Lukather on old and new Van Halen record
Posted by Arend on Tuesday, April 20, 2004 4:32:30 PM

*
Recently the re-united rock icon Van Halen recorded three new tracks produced by Glen Ballard. They are sceduled for appearance on the Best of volume 2, to be released later this year. Steve Lukather did some background vocals on the new Van Halen tracks. Luke: "Yes I DID do some BG's on the new Van Halen stuff. Ed and Al are brothers from the 70's and I love those cats alot! The new stuff is REALLY cool and sure to make VH fans rabid for more. It was cool they asked me. I think I am a good luck charm for them. Every VH record I have sung on entered the charts at #1! Too bad it doesn't work for me, hahaha."

In 1991 Lukather did some background vocals on the closing song Top of the world from the album For unlawful carnal knowledge*and in 1995 on the track Not enough from the album Balance."

More info if I can find it

Shows in Chicago are on a MOnday and Tuesday night. I'll guess I'll be missing this one, because I just started a new job and can't go calling in sick or asking for the day off already.

Dammit this sucks.

seem to be an oxymoron. VH3 had terrible production. No real balance to it at all and the vocals were especially poorly done.

Pageing Ted Templeman, is there a Ted Templeman in the building?

Apparently Glen split just before production for III begun, but he was originally slated to produce.

He has worked with VH in the past. He co-wrote some material with them.

That said, VH3 rocks.

Do you think we should mail him to tell him it's "Discography" not "Discogrpahy"

Mike Post produced VH3. Glen Ballard only did Humans Being.

FYI, Mike Post is the guy who wrote the theme music for Just Shoot Me. Coincidence?

But the person you should blame for the sound of VH3 isn't the producer (who is responsible for the performances more than anything) - it's Edward and some dude called Robbes who mixed it.

Don't forget to blame the mastering engineer on VH3. I read an interview where Eddie was all pissy because the CDs were coming "from the plant" sounding all "watered down."

I have to assume that means he wasn't happy with the mastering.

I they are going to go on tour in the US now this now. How long do we have to wait until they play in Europe again. Last time they where here (in 1993) we had already waited 10 years for that!

Regards

André

PS. To give my comment on the VH3 album. I heard the thing back when came out. Having said that I decided not to buy it.

I have my tix to Worcester, MA, so I've started brushing up on some of the newer stuff I wasn't familiar with, i.e. Balance, Unlawful, etc. As you know, it's been rumored that they'll be NO Roth-era tunes on the tour, which is a shame because without Roth there'd be no VH now (I don't think). Anyway, can VH3 be worse than Balance? Never thought I'd say this about a VH album, but Balance blows chunks!

That's not true, they've been rehearsing at least Panama and Jump, according to undercover.com.au. Still I would love to hear Sammy do some of the Dave era songs he hasn't done a million times, like Unchained, Push Comes To Shove, House of Pain, Jamie's Cryin' and Hear About It Later.
