Van Halen.. The UnCDs
Hey all,
Thought I'd get a more unbiased response here that some EVH dedicated fan forum...
with NO new
Van Halen
material in my lifetime (prove me wrong Eddie!),
I'm wondering if anyone here has purchased the (4) CD set called by many as the UnCDs? If so, what's the sound quality and quality of the songs altogether?
And without starting another thread....does anyone have access to the unreleased VH3 song "That's Why I Love Ya?" I've got a pretty crappy copy and was hoping to get something better.
Thanks all!
Chris

Sounds interesting!
I also have no hope for new material, but what I really want is a live DVD of the Roth era. That concert where the Unchained video was taken from for instance...we know the A/V quality won't be top notch, but add some cool extras and you have a top seller.

You weren't alive when they released the last album? That makes you less than 6 years old? (Wasn't VH III was rleased in 1998?) Or did you mean no
more
new material?
I'm not familiar with the "UnCDs", but I'd like to hear more about them.

The US Festival footage is out there too. (I was under the impression the footage for the Unchained video came from the US Festival, but I could be wrong. I guess it wouldn't make sense to release a video for Fair Warning after Diver Down came out.) I heard part of the recording on the radio years ago, and Showtime actually aired it (it was in the TV book, but I didn't have Showtime!)
I too would like to see a live Roth era DVD. At least a CD. It's a shame that none of that stuff has been released. I think it comes back to the strife between the brothers and Dave.
At this point I'm convinced that Van Halen -- specifically Eddie and Alex -- are retired. Its unfortunate that the Noise Boys couldn't keep their egos and 'tudes in check long enough to keep it together and go out in style -- a farwell tour, for example. This not knowing, rumor-mill on-again/off-again reunion banter is pretty low-class if you ask me.

I keep hearing all the time that they
are
back together with
Sammy Hagar
and currently recording an album that's supposed to be released in June/July of this year. Has that all been proven to be just a rumor? I heard this for the first time months ago, and have kept hearing it every once in a while. I've even seen it discussed in one of the NY newspapers (so it must be true! LOL).
I think that "Unchained" clip with DLR was from Brazil, but I don't know for sure.

The "Unchained" video and "So this is love"/" Here about it later" videos are "promo" vid's that were shot live in the Oakland Coll. for the Fair Warning album, for MTV. They said, they did not film the whole show. You can get them on VSH or DVD....bootleg of course. The BEST quality bootleg of VH is the US Festival.....(I have them all)

This is from some radio station's website, accompanied by a blurry photo of Edward from the Balance era.

The Reunion They Said Wouldn't Happen
They formed in 1973, became their namesake in '74, 96rock brought them to Atlanta for the first time on April 23, 1978 at the Fox Theater, and it's been six long years since they last played the A-T-L. Keep listening for a major concert announcement...SOON!
And from the Van Halen website in the tour archive section, just for some corroborating evidence...
4/23/78 Atlanta, GA Fox Theater

I recently (yesterday) heard that they are recording new songs with Sammy for Greatest Hits Volume 2, and are scheduled to be finished by the end of Feb. Eddie is now cancer free.

Hehe. I just got an email saying the Van Halen email list has been reactivated. That's a good sign!

Wow, I would love to hear more of the type of what they did with DLR for the 1st Greatest Hits package... But Sammy would be cool too, since it would be something new.

The last interview I saw was linked over at
eddie van halen
.com it was like last month and eddie said he had enough material for ten albums written. He said he had been jamming alot with his son wolfgang even. Apparently him and alex play everday as he said too, but he hadent seen mike anthony in two years now. Pretty sad, but you get the feeling from the interview the guy doesnt wanna tour.
