Velvet Revolver...wma to mp3's???

I just purchased the Velvet Revolver cd and when I try to convert the tunes (wma's) to mp3's, it won't let me. I'm using dBpoweramp music converter and windows media player with no luck.

I purchased the cd so it's not like I'm ripping off the jams, just that I don't have a cd player in my truck and would like to put this on my mp3 player for my 40+ minute ride to and from work.

Any help?

If not I'll just keep Real Illusions and Piano Reductions on there.

Thanks in advance.

Jeff

Instead of trying to convert from one compressed format to another (which will result in poorer quality), why not just pop the CD in your computer and create fresh MP3 files directly from the CD?

Darren, I've tried that, I think. Can you tell me how?

I ripped the disc with windows media player, then tried to convert to mp3s...didn't work, thay stayed as wma's. My mp3 player (old Buslink), won't play wma's.

Help me out.

When you start Windows Media Player (first, make sure you have the latest MP10 as previous versions didn't suport mp3 rips) and click on "Rip", before you do it click on "Tools" - "Options" - "Copy Music" or whatever the tab is called and make sure you select mp3 as the default output.
Then just hit "Rip" in MP and you'll get mp3's.

A lame thing about WMP10 is that it doesn't support vbr of mp3's.

Re: Velvet Revolver...wma to mp3's???

It's not so easy with the VR CD, they have some encoding in it so you can't just pop it in and Rip it with regular software, I ran into this when I tried to put it on my HD. You have to "Rip" it with the software on the disc which creates wma files but not mp3s. Then, you can open the wma's with Sonic Foundry or something similar and save them as mp3s, I haven't been able to do it with WMP though.

My guess is the WMP files that are created via the software on the disc are protected with some form of Digital Rights Management, which would prevent you from converting them.

The funny thing is, i've never had any difficulty ripping tracks from "copy protected" CDs to MP3 (or AAC/M4A) format on my Mac.

Not sure what kind of encoding they are using, I was able to rip the disc (wma) using the "built-in" software then convert those files to mp3 with Sound Forge 5.0.
