WATCH OUT FOR 'CHICKENFOOT'

Guitar World this month has a great piece on Sammy Hagar's new band.

Satch on guitar
Michael Anthony from Van Halen on Bass
Chad Smith from the Chili Peppers on drums
Sammy singing

9 songs ready to record in September and Sammy says IT RIVALS LED ZEPPELIN

....and I do believe him. This could be the biggest band in a decade....
Satch says its the best band he's been in.

so keep a watch out for ChickenFoot.

None of that is really that great. The decade has been terrible for bands, and what great bands has Satch been in. As far as rivaling Zeppelin, I'm sure Sammy also thought Mas Tequila, I Cant Drive 55, and Why Can't This Be Love were all great songs too.

Didn't Joe play in Jaggers solo tour back in the late 80's/early 90's? Does that count as being in a band?

He also replaced Ritchie Blackmore for awhile in Deep Purple, and was in lots of bands as a young player before starting his instrumental career.

G3 wasnt a band, it was a tour where Satch got to be Satch. Of course he's going to say this is the best band he's ever been in, he's promoting the album. Aside from people here, who would buy the disk if in the interview he said it wasnt his best work and the guys just phoned the album in, or that maybe there was one or two decent songs but the rest is filler that Eddie wouldnt let Sammy do in VH. I'd be suprised if there was a second album.
I wouldnt count Satch filling in as being in a band, maybe being in a cover band. Im not much of a fan of Deep Purple or Jaggers solo stuff, but if Chickenfoot has a 30+ year career or have an influence on future musicians that outlives the band, maybe there is something to it being the best band ever, until then don't believe the hype.

Re: WATCH OUT FOR 'CHICKENFOOT'

Really...are you saying that G3 wasn't a band??? hhmm...I suppose you think it was "3" different bands, lol!! You're such a dork cid

I take it you don't care for satch?? That's all good, I don't particularly care for Sammy, but sometimes when you get a certain mix of musos that mesh with fresh ideas ya never know what the outcome may be???

We'll see I think it's a cool mix!! Heck, they may end up being the new Gun's and Roses

Lol...give um a chance and maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised (not that you'll admit it even if you do like the material)

BTW - Vai ruled all the G3's that he participated in (and yes I saw them all:O))

There's no way to tell how it's gonna be, but I think it's best to keep an open mind...I'm optimistic about the project, even though I despised Van Hagar. Ya never know what will happen when you throw different musicians together...

Re: WATCH OUT FOR 'CHICKENFOOT'

I'll take a listen when it comes out. Can't be as bad as the stuff coming out on the radio every day.

And JEMMER I disagree I believe Satch rules all the G3s.

Re: WATCH OUT FOR 'CHICKENFOOT'

This only helps guitar music in general~

Steve filled Eddie's shoes with DLR and now it's Satch's turn with Sammy. Any way you look at it it helps generate excitement about the instrument and rock music.

There's been alot of real garbage released in the last few years - we are due for a new group to come in and change everything.....just like VH did........just like the Peppers did.....just like Surfing WT Aliens did......

....I'm jus sayin......

No, G3 wasnt a band, it was Satch doing his solo thing. Ok, I'll clarify it. Technically since he played with a drummer and a bass player he had a backing band that he played with but it wasnt a traditional rock band which is what he is going for now so it's comparing aplles to oranges. Will it be as bad as Sex and Religion, probably not. Im just betting atch bant help but overplay, he spent too much time doing the "llok at me" thing to be able to tone it down in a band setting. The worst part of the band is Sammy Hagar. I dont think I've ever heard anything Sammy was involved in that made me think "Wow, Sammy Hagar isnt THAT god awful". They are just waaaaay over selling themselves. Next Led Zeppelin, best band in a decade, put out the album before you start making stuff up.

Re: WATCH OUT FOR 'CHICKENFOOT'

I gotta agree with Cid on the Hagar angle. I personally can't stand the guy. Satch, Mike Anthony, and Chad Smith should make for a real good band, but for me at least, Hagar's gonna make me take a pass on this one.

If it rocks then cool I will get it. If not I won't. Don't see a point in speculating until it actually comes out. Led Zep sucked balls by the way.
