What makes a song GOOD???
In your OPINION, what makes a song worth listening to?
The techinique?
The affect is has on you?
The words?
The instruments?
What is it that turns you on about a song???

Re: What makes a song GOOD???
all of the above are correct...
Sometimes a song will catch me on lyrics alone.. Sometimes I listen to a band even though I cant stand the singer because of the riffs.
Sometimes technique comes into play...
And I did like Salt and Peppa but not Salt and Butter..

Re: What makes a song GOOD???
I have to say the affect it has on me, if it "moves" me. Also though, a song can take me to a particular place, for example, an old girlfriend, a particular Summer, what have you. That has little to do with how good the song is, the song just gets lucky and is associated with something appealing. But yeah, I'm pretty sure we are just going to be talking about intangibles here, what makes your favorite color whatever it is? Why do some like butter and some don't? Jazz and not metal? etc etc etc...

Re: What makes a song GOOD???
the feel, originality, and there is no need for a triple harmonic fast arpregio sweep solo....
But it also depends on who you ask, normal people will tell you that a good song has to be creative and original... Suits will tell you that in order for it to be a "good" song, it has to appeal to everyone and be very easy...

Re: What makes a song GOOD???
For me, a song is good if it has a beautiful MELODY. Be it classical, pop, rock or Josh Groban kind of music, if it has a nice melody to it, i would certainly spend sometime listening to it.A song without melody is just plain rubbish.

Also very well said - without a melody, a song is nothing...... well, not really nothing..... otherwise where would Bobby Dylan be.........

Re: What makes a song GOOD???
For me it's, in order:
1-Vibe
2-Melody (if I keep humming it after I heard it...it's my thing!)
3-Licks, be it instruments or voice. (to me a vocal phrase is like a lick, there's some word combinations and articulation that just work, regardless of the actual meaning).
4-Sound. I could like any crap if it sounded like
Motley Crue
's Dr. Feelgood!

Re: What makes a song GOOD???
When it's honest and inspired. But, it's also a matter of taste. There is also honest, inspired rap music. But I don't like it, nevertheless. And technique, for me, has nothing to do with it. It's music. An expression of emotion. Not a demonstration of someone's technical ability. That's more for clinics. Not for records, IMO.
Kind regards,
Myst and rain

Bah. I'd hate songs with that.
If it makes me sing horribly out of tune to it, then it's a good song.
