Who is your favorite 80's hair metal band????? Why???
This topic should get temper's flared , blood pressure up, and hemorroids swelled and itching.....
Who is your favorite 80's hair metal band?
Why?
You must represent only one please!!
Don't list 27, and say you can't choose!!!
Narrow it down to one, and defend your reason!!

Let's expand this thread - you get to add your least favorite as well.
Most fav, that's hard, but:
Extreme
Least, that's even harder, but:
Motley Crue

I was going to say Guns n' Roses, but they're more of a hard rock band than a hair band, so I guess Poison is on top of my list
Why? They represent all the fun in rock and roll.

Skid Row !!!!! Sebastian Bach's vocals were among the best I've ever heard and I just loved the band because they created some of the true classics of yesterday's generation !
Well the thing is that so many of today's bands are utter crap ( The Hives, the Mooney Suzuki, please, give me a break) that any of the 80's hair bands looks great next to them !

Hair Band...oh let´s see...as far as melon scratchers go this one is a honey doodle. hmm I´d say maybe Europe.
and why: good singer, great guitar player(s). (John Norum who left the band and Kee Marcello who replaced him. )

Oh MAN. Tough decision. As much as I love Dokken, I'd say Winger edges them out.
Why? Kip Winger is my favorite singer. Incredible range, incredible feeling, great songwriter. And comon, I mean, Reb Beach on guitar. Nuff said.

He's been in a foul mood ever since someone stole his "Bay City Rollers" lunchbox.

Well that's too easy. I've heard
Motley Crue
. I've also heard Extreme. I rest my case. Okay, you probably want me to elaborate...
1) Extreme's Pornografitti is powerful funky guitar god goodness, and Extreme's "III Sides" album is epic and envelope-pushing, especially for this genre. They made a strong statement, a
musical
one, and Nuno had one of the best combinations of rhythm and lead skills this side of
Zakk Wylde
.
in contrast with...
2) I'll submit "Shout at the Devil" as an example, because KJSO has graced the Bay Area by resurrecting this oldie but (...oldie) back into heavy rotation. This tune is the metal equivalent of the canned demo song stored in a $15 toy Casio keyboard, dressed up in drag queen makeup and taught to worship devils. Tasty. Quite a feat, how they managed to get a bunch of perfectly good instruments together, record them, and end up with something who's whole is
less than the sum of the parts
.
My favorite part of the song, aside from the signal noise before and after it, is where V.Neil explodes into the 3rd phrase of the verse, singing entirely through his nose. He must have employed some exotic Eastern vocal techniques to train his nostrils to form the vowels and consonants. I saw a video once of him drinking a glass of water while singing this part. Genius. The end result is quite a unique tonal effect that can best be described as a cross between the neighbor's yelling housewife and a Bichon whose tail has been caught in a slammed car door.
This song is bested perhaps only by this
legendary crooner's work
. Check the reviews if you don't believe me.
