Who played the Top Gun theme?

I keep hearing that the guitar was played by Satch, or EVH, or Steve Stevens. I'm quite confused because the tone sounds like Eddie's. Anyone out there who knows anything about this?

Steve Stevens. I had the album during my (musically embarrasing) early teens

Many sources on the net say it was played and recorded by Satch, but it wasnt. As others have said on here before now, it was Steve Stevens. Its a very cool song though - great to play too!

I can't understand why people keep thinking that Joe or Ed for that matter played the Top Gun Theme. It is so clearly Steve Stevens doing the job (great I might add) .

Absolutely, it sounds just like Steve Stevens and it sounds nothing like EVH or Joe

Stevens put out an album about 5 years ago with Bozio on drums and Levin on bass.

Re: Who played the Top Gun theme?

It was definitely Steve Stevens and a famous keyboardplayer whose namesescapes me at the moment. There was even a Music Video waaaaay back in the day with Steve in it. (My age is showing here)

Steve Stevens is one of the most amazing yet underrated players out there. His stuff is smokin, check it out if you get a chance.

That song is really nice, reminds me a bit of Vai's Liberty.

Re: Who played the Top Gun theme?

Yup. It screams Steve Stevens for sure. It was Steve Stevens and Harold Faltermeyer, the same guy who did the Axel F(oley) theme for Beverly Hills Cop.

Too bad he didn't do the rest of the album though. Steve Stevens is a great guitarist.

Re: Who played the Top Gun theme?

Steve Stevens, still this day, confuses & surprises me. When you look for him, you get some kind of typical hair band player with 3 or 5 chords But when you see his discography, listen what he played...Its amazing. Really...
