Who plays the Top Gun Anthem

Me and my friend have been having this argument about who plays this song, i have downloaded it and the artist appears to be Joe Satriani. But he has as Van Halen. Can someone please tell me who played the song?

I never quite understood why some people that Joe played on this track. It's so easy to hear that is it Steve Stevens.

The Top Gun Anthem is a masterpiece if you consider when it was recorded. Steve Stevens vibrato, harmonics and overall feel were the perfect match for this song. I still get an adrenalyne rush every time I play the solo.

Its a legendary piece, I too get shivers everytime I hear it! Its a great film too, a classic!

if you get the collectors edition dvd (i highly recommend it) theres a segment in the big "making of" piece that goes over the music. If memory serves correctly, faltermeyer pitched himself to the producers claiming he had THE THEME to top gun. He really just had something going through his head. The producers called him on it and wanted to hear it that night. Faltermeyer called steve stevens immediately and that piece of music was put together within a couple of hours and is almost exactly what you hear in the movie.

Steve Stevens is one of my favourite players. He's got a totally unique voice, and hey, anyone who can make their guitar sound like a toy raygun is cool in my books.

And he had the biggest of the big hair in the '80s.

That would make just about anybody who can afford to buy a toy raygun cool then (since that's what he actually used).

Are you sure about that ? I've heard it was a combination of tremolo and pick scrapes and echo . I'll find out later this month when I see Billy Idol live (with Steve) .
