Who was it that finally made you pick up the guitar

Who was it that finally made you pick up the guitar and never look back?
For me it was my dad. I was 8 at a rehersal that my pops brought me to that
he was trying out for.
Man were they jamming out good tunes.
All the Rush, Saga, Halen, Pink Floyd, Jimi and stuff.

Until that night I'd never got the concept of the electric guitar.
Believe it or not I thought they were toys that only the likes of rock stars
such as Kiss could afford.
The 70's/80's was a good time.....

My pops was playing his old LP and an Olivo that was made for him.
Long story short, from that point on I was hooked and shortly after my parents
divorced when I was 11, I started to really pick it up for the joy and just to be close to my pops since I never really got to see him much.

My pops' and his Olivo is what started it all for me so to speak.

What's your story? Who made you decide to go for it?

Good Times

Squeegy

there used to be this guy Quinn Martin that was just awesome at guitar.. We would go to his house and watch him play metallica songs and just sit there in awe.. He was awesome.

I havent looked back since, and truthfully I still suck LMAO..

It was hearing the pinch harmonics dive and rise in Surfing With the Alien that hooked me. I knew from that point on what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.............................PLAY GUITAR!!!

My mom started playing classical guitar about 8 years ago. That got me hooked and then she bought me my first guitar, a 3/4 size Durango classical. Ah, the memories, lol.

Re: Who was it that finally made you pick up the guitar

Back in 1998 I developed a small flame for guitar after hearing David Lee Roth's "Just Like Paradise." I could not stop playing that song over and over because I was hooked to the sound of the guitar on that song. Later I purchased "Passion & Warfare" and burned for playing the guitar. It took me awhile to realize that Steve was DLR's guitarist at that time!

My first guitar teacher, A.G. Fryett, (I miss taking lessons from him!) kicked off the search for my first guitar after I saw him perform in middle school.

Re: Who was it that finally made you pick up the guitar

well, i had taken choir as an elective in 6th grade, but my dad had told me i should have taken guitar. and, well, i didn't like singing, nor was i good at it. i took his advice and started in 7th grade, and it turned out i was destined to play the guitar. lol. but seriously, it all came to me so easy. with out my dad telling me to take the classes in school, i wouldn't know a damn thing about it. But, EVH is the guy that i modeled myself and idoled once i started playing. he blew my mind.

Edward Van Halen. When I first heard "Eruption" (on 8-track tape, no less), I knew I had to learn to play guitar.
