Wow....
My friend and I put up an ad a while ago looking for a drummer. Tonight I get a call from a 40 year old lady responding to it. She says she can play anything from polka to metal. She keeps up with all the new bands and stuff. So at first I'm like, "WTF???" But then we talk a bit, I told her we're looking for someone who can play prog and stuff, and she sounded like she could do it. She's been playing for over 20 years in numerous bands.
So I think technically she's up to it, but socially?
We're just a couple of high school guys looking for a band.

I say jam with her if for nothing but fun and see how things go.
If nothing else, you'll have a great story to tell your next drummer

Hmm, I think 40 today is a lot different to 40 ten or 15 years ago. Remember she probably came through at the height of Metallica/Megadeth/Slayer/Van Halen, and if she's actively looking to join a heavy band, she's probably not an apron-and-mixing-bowl mum. Give her a shot. Remember,
Steve Vai
's 43,
Sammy Hagar
is about 55 and Ronnie James Dio is in his 60s.

Well she said she doesn't play like a girl and she thinks she was born for drumming, so hopefully we'll have fun. I'm going to at least hear her play...but it's going to feel like I'm in a band with my mom!!!

A 40 year old drummer a milf, lol. What would be the odds? I think having a 40 year old in a high school band is a bit much.

Now that's one of the crazier stories I've heard but I'm all for it. If she's been playing for 20 years then she's got all the experience in the world to fit in. I agree that you guys should jam with her despite the age gap because she might turn out to be an ultra cool person who you guys can really gel with.

It's also likely it could be the polar opposite.

Mmmm.... I don't know... I think with "mom" on board, its going to be awkward having the usual comraderie among high school boys..... the 40 yr old won't listen to who's screwing who stories, nor will she care to hear how many beers you had and where you puked.
Unless she's Neil Peart, I think I'd pass on this one.
If it was a 40 yr old guy, we'd all be saying "I'd didn't know Michael Jackson played drums??""
I think a 40 yr old female would be just as weird.
Oh yeah.... and there is a better chance that Axl Rose will be popular again than the odds that this woman is a M.I.L.F.
* Even if she is, that would just complicate an already weird situation.
* $1,000 says she looks like a buffer Rosie O'Donnell

That sounds like the coolest thing -- I would definitely give it a go once, just to see what happens. What have you got to lose? At the very worst, you'll get to chalk up an experience that few will get to lay claim to. You might even discover some cool music that will be new to you...
