Wow, Dweezil Zappa plays good!

I never really heard of him except for the Zappa plays Zappa tour, I watched this video on Youtube and he's a pretty damn good player. He can play fast but also really knows how to play some good riffs (if you haven't got much patience then fast forward the video to 4 mins or so...):

I hate SG's but he got such a good tone out of that guitar.

Is it the Les Paul guy that was doing that horrid droning rhythm at about 1:30?
And when he and the sax came in it kinda ruined it for me.

As for Zappa's tone, I think it's good too. SG's only have crappy tone when they attempt to pretend to be an LP or strat or whatever (So, really 99% of all SGs tone sucks, lol).

Don't fast forward - there's some seriously good Vai in there first!

I love the tone of SGs tbh!

Yeah I think it was the Les Paul guy playing the horrible, out of tune drone. At first I thought it may have been Zappa off-camera but I'm not sure.

The tone of the SG sounded just like a LP to me but I have never played a Gibson so not exactly sure what the difference in sound is...

It doesn't sound particularly great but it's similar to the way FZ used loops on his 1988 tour, so I kinda get why it's there.

By the way, if you're impressed by Dweezil's playing on that, check out the passage from 3:10 to 3:42 in this one.

^^ Petie, how did I know you were going to point out St. Alphonso's Pancake Breakfast?

Haha. I saw him doing a thing for Peavey at NAMM (05, I think) w/ Joe Travers on drums and the late Wes Wehmiller on bass - and he played the crap out of that part then. Mike Keneally was smiling his ass off in the back of that room too.

Check out his album "my guitar wants to kill your mama"

The title track is a metal reworking of FZ's original. It is better too.

I remember seeing him on MTV in the '80s, when he would host with his sister, he had his green Charvel strapped on and he would play some pretty cool stunt guitar during those segments.

The Les Paul guy is Jamie Kime, he plays at the Baked Potato a lot. I'm usually impressed by him. And ZPZ is great, I've it twice, one with Dream Theater. Its an incredible show.

If you don't have the Zappa Plays Zappa DVDs (and the CDs too) you're cheating yourself of some ridiculously good stuff.

And I'm not a Zappa freak by any means. I only went to see them live cuz of Vai (and I got a pick from him that night too). I was really blown away that night. Dweezil was sickeningly good.
