mmm ... now this is an interesting case: no one wants to say a word about it ... but soon or late someone who knows will open his/her big mouth and tell us the truth this kind of secrets cannot be kept forever

Re: Yngwie left Dimarzio!!!!

Well, it turns out Yngwie left Dimarzio to join Seymour Duncan: http://www.seymourduncan.com/product...ks10_yjm_fury/

We all know the reason, right? $$$$$$$$$$

I always find it funny when everyone gets all up in arms and excited because an artist leaves one company for another, or comes up with some new gear that isn't just like the old stuff they had or endorsed.

Its not funny and no one is up in arms, people just want to know why...

Why bother switching companies unless your unhappy with the product itself, or you are offered more money from another company, and you ask your current company to at least match the new figure, and they end up saying no...

So you leave...

Dimarzio just deleted yngwie from history, no ammicable goodbye etc...

Its just a weird situation thats very public....

Hmmm...I guess the big question is...is the new Duncan single coil up to shredder par?

I only mean that any artist is probably not much different than most gear heads, always on the lookout for something new, a new sound, guitar, effect or whatever.

It doesn't always have to be about money or internal politics. Not to say that it's not about money or internal politics.

Usually the press about them leaving comes from the artist themselves, since the old company is going to want to downplay it, they're not likely to make an announcement until they're forced to say something.

Gear heads usually chop and change equipment, but never really get anywhere cause they are more interested in testing out the latest stuff instead of just working with what they got. No offence but if you think changing pickups is really going to improve your actual playing, technique, and improve on your song writing abilities, then your majorly confused.

Yngwie has sounded like Yngwie throughout his entire dimarzio career. You put him on any other guitar and guess what, he is still going to sound like Yngwie..

I dont think its purely because he stopped liking Dimarzio. Its not like pickup technology is vastly different brand to brand... its not like Dimarzio use copper wires, and SD use Dilithium Crystals...

You dont leave a company, with whom you have a good working relationship, pays you well, and makes any pickup you ask of them... just cause you like another product. Something happened more then just pickup preference...

and we all know it..

Yngwie hasn't changed pickups in 25 + years, co-developed/ designed the HS-3, always plays his Marshalls and plays his Fender Strat since forever.

Changing after this length of a periode is quite the change.

That's just the point. If you've been playing for 25+ year with the same gear, you are NOT a gear head.

There's a story here, but we just don't know it yet.

Re: Yngwie left Dimarzio!!!!

Pulled from the SD site:

"Guitars
The YJM Fury will directly retrofit most single-coil equipped guitars. Though originally designed for a FenderŪ Strat with a scalloped maple fingerboard, the YJM Fury will work well with any bolt-on guitar that utilizes traditional single-coil-size Strat pickups. The YJM Fury is the same pickup that Fender installs in their YJM Strat guitars."

Read the last line....this means that YJM is not the only one who has abandoned DiMarzio.

Re: Yngwie left Dimarzio!!!!

They'd have to put them in his strat as per all the legal stuff involved in an endorsement.. you can't have a sig pup and a sig guitar without that pup going into THAT guitar.. its a conflict.
Yng and DiMarzio haven't had any ill words.. no problems.. Duncan will be willing to pay top dollar for Yng and after a while.. folks taste simply sometimes change.. you date nothing but blondes for 20 year and maybe you'd like to try a brunette or a redhead and change things up?!?

I'm not sure where I said anything about pickups changing your technique or songwriting?

You guys are pretty intense on this topic, don't worry, I'm not slagging Yngwie, and the motivation behind his switch will be interesting I'm sure.

Maybe Yngwie is a bad example, as you're right, he has played more or less the same rig for a long time.

However, I think I'm trying to speak in more generic terms, and plenty of players, just as relevant as Mr. Malmsteen, come out with new signature guitars, amps or whatever from time to time. When that happens, it is usually greeted with general shock that they would do something different. Either that or its lambasted as being all about money.

Then, of course, you have the George Lynch's of the world... I love his playing, but man I'm still waiting for George Lynch brand peanut butter. That guy will endorse just about anything, and switches constantly. In his case I'm sure it's about money.

For the record, I am not "majorly confused." Of course a pickup isn't going to change everything for you. Though, I don't know about you, but for me, sometimes a new piece might be just the thing to kick in a vibe that sets me playing some new, but inspired sounding stuff.

Whatever the reason, I'm sure it'll come out eventually.
