Here is an Ibanez 540R
guitar in black with a dual humbucker setup. The black body is from 1989. The neck and tuners are from 1987. The pickups are from 1988. The rest of the parts are from 10+ years of buying 540Rs, selling 540Rs, and keeping the best parts for myself. Here are some of the guitars that I've had to chose from:
The 1989 body has some nicks and a shallow scratch on the back and a dent next to the input jack. You can see it in the photos of the back of the guitar below. There is a neck pocket crack on the bass side and no crack on the treble side. The bridge posts are not the locking style but the inserts are.
This is the last of my 540R guitars. Over the years I've taken the newest looking hardware for myself. The tuners, nut, pickups, and bridge are all in brand new condition as you can see in the photos. All of the hardware is black. Not cosmo black. Just black. Even though the bridge doesn't look it because it is reflecting the ceiling, it is black. The two humbuckers are mounted in Seymour Duncan TripleShot switching rings. IMO these rings are the greatest guitar innovation of the century. With them you can get either coil by itself, both coils in series (standard humbucker), and both coils in parallel (still a humbucker but more like a single coil). All that using just those two micro switches you see below.
The standard controls include a push-pull volume pot for the two pickups out of phase with each other. The tone capacitor is an orange drop. The tone control is connected to the volume control with 50's wiring.
Hard shell Shark Skin chainsaw case included.
