Fender 1977 for Jpm

Have a 1977 fender four bolt serial number S7xxxxx neck heel stamp 09031075. This could be a prototype fender. Pickguard and pickups are not original. Neck and body have four bolt holes. One on each side no sign of thrid hold in the middle for the three bolt. Body and neck are in great condition. Please check out the pics at http://abbaden.tripod.com/fender_1977/

That's not a Fender. The body is definatly not a Fender, and the guard/electronics are obviously not Fender either. The neck looks to have the correct stamp at the heel for a Fender, but I have never seen or even heard of a 4 bolt non bullet truss rod neck on a Strat until the '79 25th Anniversary models, which had a different logo than yours and also had Fender marked Sperzel non locking tunners. Not only have I never heard or seen a 4 bolt non bullet Strat neck in this era, but I have never even heard a rumor that one existis! In '81/'82 there were a few big headstock 4 bolt "70s" Strats made, but those also had the bullet truss rod and still had the heel routing for the micro tilt assembly in the neck. All of them I have seen have a S9 or E2 serial number. I have seen one instance where there was a 25th anniverasy neck on a non anniversary model. It was a catalog shot for an international color series in '80 that had the 25th neck.

Hmmm - the body IS missing the little cable rout under the lead pickup - maybe an Ibanez Silver Series body? (though the Ash and the clear finish is VERY consistent with strats of that era, so, maybe one-off, or prototype?)- I have to say the various neck stamps look spot on, style, positioning and colour - a lot of work for a fake I would have thought - by the way the pickguard is almost certainly a Schecter pre-assembled metal plate - the two knobs and three mini switches are a dead giveaway - anyway - good luck with the sale/trade.
