FS: 1998 RG550, Black w/ Maple fretboard, DiMarzio Pickups

Disclaimer: This guitar needs a little work. The pickups need to be rewired and the guitar needs a setup. Ok, now you can read the rest

I'll try to include as much detail as possible. I ordered this RG550 brand new in 1998 and most of the time since then it's been in a closet because I wasn't playing from 1999 to 2005. Anyway, I recently tried to install new pickups but didn't get the wiring right somehow. I think I didn't get a good ground solder on the volume pot. Anyway, the pickups are brand new and are a DiMarzio FRED (neck), DiMarzio ProTrack (mid), and DiMarzio Evolution Bridge (bridge) and all are F-Spaced. It has a superstrat 5-way with no knob but I'll also include the original 5-way. The tone pot used to crackle a bit (from not being used) and I sprayed some Fender electronics cleaner in it when I installed the pickups but never got to test it. The neck is in excellent condition with no cracks, dents, etc. and looks real straight. In the full guitar pictures it looks kinda like there is discoloration on the neck, this is actually the grain so check out the neck closeups if you're not sure. Not really any fret wear since I never really played it much. The body has some chips around the edges which are all pictured (no neck pocket cracks though). Sadly, I was dumb and 18 when these happened so the few that uncovered wood I covered with a sharpie so the wood wasn't showing. The wood itself isn't damaged in any of these but some of the chips did uncover a little wood. The cosmo finish on the Edge tremolo has some very minor oxidation (pictured) but is otherwise great. The pickguard has the usual pick scratches.

If you have any questions or want more specific pictures (I already took 25+) please let me know.

I don't have a site to host pictures so please email me at AllenTOliver@gmail.com or PM me with your email address.

$600 shipped CONUS or Canada w/ generic case.

Will consider overseas but buyer must be patient and understand I've never shipped overseas before.

Thanks,

Allen

Not in a big rush to sell but after looking at what RG550s are selling for these days I'm adjusting the price to what I think is a little more fair.

$500 shipped CONUS/Canada.

Thanks,

Allen

Would you be interested in trading this for a 92 Jackson SL, I have pics if you want its in comparable shape as your RG? I can send you some good high res pics if you would like, or are you just selling this outright? PM me or respond back here I check the forum often.

I would definitely love to consider trades (and I do like Jacksons!) but my wife would kill me. Selling this was one of the conditions for buying the RGPR1 off Rich. Thanks for the offer though.

Ok it was worth a shot. Thats a nice RG you have there, been gassing for a Ibanez, and one with a maple fretboard and AANJ is a nice find.

Thanks! That's what I thought but apparently NickCormier doesn't agree lol. Anyway, I might end up parting it out on **** cause I'll get the most money for it but it just feels so wrong doing that... *sigh*.

UPDATE: I fixed a small ground issue with the wiring and the FRED and Evolution pickups work beautifully! Unfortunately, my wiring is still aparently messed up because positions 2, 3, and 4 produce no sound at all. Grrr... I officially give up on wiring.

Well, if I hadn't just bought the Strat lol... Still, it's INCREDIBLY tempting.

Maybe if I get a decent wage slip!

lol you should use a wiring diagram from seymourduncan.com, or some other place. Wiring is no more than a slighty harder game of connect the dots, every guitarist should know how to wire a guitar IMO.....plus your guitar would have a nicer chance at selling if it were wired right...good luck anyway.

I have two wiring diagrams directly from DiMarzio but the middle pickup is wired differently in both. It's really that damn ProTrack that is making it so complicated (technically it's H-H-H). We'll see how bored I get this weekend... maybe I'll pull it out and try a true single coil in it's place. I am slowly getting a little better at soldering, LOL!
