Do you think scalloping the fretboard could remedy the chips or is the finish chipped throughout the whole neck?

Hi,

The flaking in the pictures is only in the clear coat not in the wood of the neck. and only on the frets not on the back of the neck.

It never had an effect on the guitar's playability BUT it would be very nice to remedy.

Scalloping the neck would get rid of the clear coat and, I would wager, solve the problem. That or a refinish/removal of the clear coat.
