The FRED and single stay in the guitar. The original IBZ will be shipped with the guitar in the case. You'll want to keep the FRED in the guitar unless the blue/black really bothers you. The FRED sounds better than the stock IBZ.

what kind of wood is the fretboard?

It's rosewood. Could be Brazillian. I think it's an '88, and Brazillian was still in use back then. I think it looks nicer than most of the newer rosewood which is why I say this but I really don't know for sure if it's Brazillian.
