Up for sale is my RG2120XVV from 2003. I’m looking for £600 shipped in the UK and £630 shipped in Europe. This price includes pictured hard case, but doesn’t include the strap (sorry). High resolution pictures and detailed description below. If you have any questions please get in touch.
Condition:
Overall the condition is excellent however there are some flaws so here they are listed in detail. There is a small ding on the back of the headstock (pictured). There is a small chip on the side edge near the control cavity (pictured). There is some pimpling on the bass side of the tremolo. Apart from these there is nothing else I could find. The neck is straight. The frets look new. The action is low with no buzzing or choking. It is set up very nicely.
Electronics:
The electronics have been modified. The original owner had all the electronics removed (pots, switches preamp and all) and had wired the Piezo direct to the output. This was obviously unusable. So I gave it a complete re-wire. I have since installed a new L.R. Baggs ctrl-X preamp. New alpha pots, a Sprague 600v orange drop tone capacitor and a silver mica high pass filter. Rather then using the original wiring scheme I decided to employ a more useful one (In my opinion). I decided not to have a blend pot as I don’t use blended magnetic and piezo signals. Instead, I wired the guitar to have the capability of using both piezo and magnetic signals simultaneously on the two independent outputs. To try and make this absolutely clear, on the middle position of the toggle switch on a stock 2120X you would get blended piezo and magnetic signals going out on output A. On this 2120X on the middle position of the toggle switch you get magnetic signal going out on output A and piezo signal going out on output B. I use this function extensively on both my 2020X and 2027X to layer acoustic guitar (often through chorus and octavers and sometimes a little gain) on top of my distorted tone to create a massive wall of guitar sound when playing live.
The magnetic pickups are Dimarzio Evolutions and are wired as follows.
Position 1) Bridge Evo in series (standard bridge wiring)
Position 2) Outer coils of both pickups in parallel (Strat style sound)
Position 3) Inner coils of both pickups in parallel (Petrucci sound)
Position 4) Outer coils of both pickups in series (High-def humbucker sound)
Position 5) Neck Evo in series (standard neck wiring)
