Possibly FS: Month-old Mesa Rect-o-verb 50 combo

Ok, long story short, I impulse bought a Rect-o-verb combo about a month and a half ago at a local GC. The amp rules. Even in the store, I was digging the thing (and I don't generally get on with Rectos, or I hadn't in the past), so since I'd just gotten a raise I said screw it and took it home. However, since then I've swapped the V1 tube for a tung-sol (mandatory mod for all Rectifiers), and started running it with a THD Hot Plate in the loop (SHOULD be mandatory, IMO), and I'm absolutely floored by the quality of the tones I'm getting from this thing. We all know that Rectifiers own for metal crunch, but I'm getting better lead tones out of this than I've ever gotten from my Nomad, which I swore by for years.

Then, I started thinking maybe I'd be happier with a Roadster, and lo and behold a buddy of mine just offered to sell me one for a fairly good price. So, this rig rules, but GAS is an evil mistress so I'm thinking of letting it go for a Roadster head.

The Rectoverb is basically dead mint - I demo'd a different one than I bought in the store, actually, so the one I took home was literally "new in the box." GC hadn't even opened it. Literally, it's cleaner than anything you'll find new in a Guitar Center, and probably has less playtime on the tubes. It would come with all included paperwork - hang tags, warranty cards, manual, brochures, etc, even the little red tube mesh covers, if I saved them. I've also got a Tung-sol in V1 - it's included (unless for some reason you don't want it) but I'll also toss in the stock Mesa 12AX7 if you want it, too.

These go new for $1479 - I'm looking $1275 plus actual shipping. I'd prefer to stay in the Continental US, but I won't absolutely rule out foreign buyers. I'm not looking for trades, unless it's on another Roadster head, or a Recto 2x12 plus cash. I'm also not really super-flexible on the price - I love the tones I'm getting out of this and I'm not gigging at the moment, so I don't reallly NEED the extra channels and the channel-assignable poweramp sections from the Roadster so I'd rather keep it than come down down a lot on the price. Besides, it's already rather reasonable for a cleaner Rectoverb than you're likely to find new in a GC.

I've been a long-running member here and I moderate over at sevenstring.org, and have had a number of transations both here and there over the years, so I'd be happy to provide a few references. I'm not currently set up for paypal, but I'd also be happy to discuss payment options with any perspective buyers. I'll try to get some pictures of the amp up tonight, and if requested I can try to get a few sound clips .In the meantime if you have any questions, please ask.

EDIT - $1275 plus actual shipping, or local pickup in the Boston area. Also, I'm pretty booked up for the next few weekends, but I'd be willing to drive a couple hours to meet someone half way for an in-person pickup, as well. Sorry, I double checked it befoore posting, but clearly should've triple-checked.

Rectoverbs are great. I've got a head with the oversized 4x12. Great variety of tones, works for all kinds of music, nice clean, crunch, and heavy tones.

drew! before you sell it, can you record some samples with it! I was curious how it sounded.

Yeah, of course. Like I said, I might still keep it if the Roadster I'm eying goes before I sell it or there's just not enough interest.

For the time being, here's two clips I've cut - a Rectoverb in "Raw" mode with the gain around half and a TS at unity with the gain at 0 and E34L's in the poweramp doing the sort of bluesy tones you wouldn't expect from a Rectifier:

http://www.drewpeterson.org/music/bluesy_recto.mp3

Sort of a Satriani self-titled vibe. In retrospect I'd have changed the tone knob position from slightly back to straight up. Excuse the screwups.

...and more "normal" rectifier tone. Simialar settings, but with 6L6's in "Modern" mode. I THINK the TS was on here too, but I don't remember. Either way, the impact is pretty subtle - almost all of the drive is coming from the amp.

http://www.drewpeterson.org/music/backto6l6.mp3

Ditto with the screwups.

Note that these were cut with a THD Hot Plate in line between the amp and the speaker at full -16db attenuation. It's a tossup in that it DOES impact the tone a bit, but it also allows poweramp saturation that you'd never get at aparment-safe volumes, so while it'd sound better wide open than it might with the Hot Plate, it also sounds better than it would at apartment levels with noting.

Guitar in question is a UV7PWH with stock Blazes, and a SM57 thrown quickly in front of the speaker.

I'll try to get some more clips recorded this weekend to really put the amp through it's paces, but these are just sort of fun little examples in the meantime.

:agreed: It's a rectifier, we all know how they can sound. This is just me trying to show they rule for lead, too. I'll try to record some clips this afternoon, and link 'em up here.

Re: Possibly FS: Month-old Mesa Rect-o-verb 50 combo

Sorry for the early bump, but I'm gradually coming around on whether or not it's worth it to go for the Roadster, so I think if it doesn't go by tonight I'm just going to suck it up, mail in the warranty card, and keep it.

Actually, the guy who I was thinking of buying a Roadster from decided to keep it, so it looks like I'll be holding onto this too. Mods, if you could close this thread, that'd rule.

Bump for a thread close, so this one doesn't resurface three years down the road.
