**** Blunder: need advice

Greetings,
Perhaps some of you caught my blunder earlier today. At 4:30 in the morning, I found a listing for an S1620 (in the heading), with specific mention of the ZR trem in the description (item 2575390371). It had a BIN of $556 and I jumped on it. Then (when I was more awake) I looked harder at the images, and it sure looks like an Lo Pro, making the guitar an S1520 (which I already have) rather than an S1620.

OK, I blew it. I've emailed the seller but got no response. I should have studied the pics harder before bidding, especially since I've seen exactly the same error before. Plus I'm not exactly a novice at **** transactions (though you wouldn't know it from this move). But I don't need another S1520, and this is way too much for one anyway. However, I don't want to screw up my perfect **** feedback rating either.

Any advice on what I should do in a case like this?

Thanks,
Bert

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that I haven't paid yet. I was about to fire off a PayPal payment when I caught the error. But then, that shouldn't really enter into my thinking about what the "right" thing to do is, should it? Ho hum...

The right thing, in my opinion, is to not pay.

Explain nicely, if he doesn't accept an honest error, tell him to go jump in a river

Seriously, great **** feedback is nice, but not 600 dollar nice. Anyway, since you already have great feedback, one guy calling you a deadbeat bidder shouldn't really crucify you to the walls of cyberspace.

I don't know if it costs him to put it up for auction...perhaps fronting him the 10 bucks or whatever it is to relist might calm him down, and get you off the hook.

and by the way, if it ISN'T the bridge he advertised, you have every right to back out. I haven't looked at the auction, but if its a lo-pro and he said otherwise, why should you pay?

And if you get negative feedback, you reply saying:

Item not as described, payment cancelled. Email for info.

I agree with Davester...write the guy a nice, thorough, and informative note, but start out being well-informed and respectful. Point out the discrepancy between the pics & description, and confirm that the guitar in the pics is actually the guitar for sale. Show links that distinguish between the two models. You might even point out that since he has such good feedback, he may have made an honest mistake in the description, but that what you thought you were bidding ona 1620, and would not have bid otherwise. You could then ask him if he has any ideas to remedy the situation...who knows, he may suggest letting you off the hook (his feedback is on the line as well). All the best.

He does advertise it as a ZR bridge in the description.

Whew, looks like we got it resolved! I did as you guys suggested and wrote the seller a nice message outlining the problem. I offered to reimburse him for the **** charges. He was a little miffed, but he agreed to cancel the deal if I'd pay half the **** fee. Instead, I paid the whole fee plus a little extra ($25 total).

OK, lesson learned. Very few **** sellers know as much about Ibanez guitars as the Jemsiters do. A lot of things get misidentified, and I know better than to trust the description. This one almost bit me in the butt. If he'd been really hot, I might have gone so far as to pay him a reasonable price for an S1520, and then turn around and immediately sell it. From now on, when I get up early to practice, drink some java, and check what's new in the auctions, I'm gonna wear huge mittens to keep from pulling the trigger too fast. Hmm, but then I couldn't play guitar.

Hey, thanks for the input guys!
