I'm thinking he may of meant it to be $100 or $1000 to start, but put too many "0"'s.

Sounds a little odd. There would have to be two bidders that screwed up their proxy bids. A $10,000 bid would only go through if there were one before it for $9,999.

Sounds like it may be a case of shill bidding.

Gotta watch those 0s. I once bid £50 for a Vai CD by accident, and didn't realise until 3 hours before the end of the auction!
Luckily the seller cancelled my bid for me!

Often times people who figure out an auction is a scam, and can't contact the bidders because it's kept private, will bid outrageous amounts to make sure the scammer doesn't get anything.

I always see lots of stupid things on ebay which people bid for , when sellers start taking the piss selling things for ridiculous prices people bid on them for fun kinda dumb huh
