540R overpriced

Has anyone noticed lately alot of people trying to jack up prices on used Radius guitars? Now if you had a mint/near mint Radius I could understand paying at least $400 if not more, but when I see stuff like 3778336343 you can't help but shake your head! I mean look how scratched and beat it is on the top! Another thing I wish people would quit refering to it as a pre JS model, or the infamous custom made! Anyway just felt like ranting ;o)

I'm with you. I've bought a bunch of 'em, and never more than $400. And a couple have been near mint. It's OK though - keeps me from actually bidding... ;-)

Yeah, $500 R540LTDs are stupidly overpriced. Did you guys see the S540LTD on there with BIN of $950. SCARY!

Re: 540R overpriced

Well, they'll be learning what the market will bear when they don't sell at those prices. Some people are really clueless as to what things are worth. It might be a priceless guitar to them, but if it's a 15-year-old "player", it's up to the market to decide.

If they do start selling at $500+, it's good for the seller's market.

Yeah I saw that one Toshiro. It made me laugh out loud, unfortunately people don't do there homework, or the seller hopes some poor uneducated soul comes along and actually bids!

I'd love to pick up some Radius guitars but I'm set on finding a H-H version not the H-S-S you see 9 out of 10 times! They always have Radius's coming up on Yahoo Japan!

Re: 540R overpriced

I see two emerging trends: either the seller is unaware of the actual value of his stuff, and bases himself on the SUPPOSED rarity, (remote) connection to a famous player... you name it. The fact that his goods won't sell will enlighten him - nothing wrong here. What happens more, though, is that people start appreciating certain articles (again).Sometimes this renewed interest can be seen as a fad (the Boogie MKIIc+), but it could also be considered that people are yearning again for quality, originality or just plain nostalgia (seen the prices on an ADA MP-1, lately ?). And that's when the price goes up - sadly so, but this sort of renewed interest should be a sign to manufacturers, I believe.

You also have to ask yourself "what hasn't" gone up?? look at the prices of new guitars and what there offering. The new EVH Charvell, the new Vai model, the new satch model (just to name a few) If your going to pay those prices your better off looking for something "vintage" that you always wanted but couldnt afford............(here we go)...............

Re: 540R overpriced

The new Satch doesn't count, but I agree on the Vai and EVH models. You have to remember though, that the 540R had a 7 year production run (I think), so there should be lots of that guitar around. And it doesn't sport any complex finishes also and stuff like that, so it shouldn't be too expensive as some people put it out to be...I've seen one selling for 700 dollars! That's pretty expensive if you think about it...

Ok, it was a 6 year production run, but it's still a good amount of time

Re: 540R overpriced

Well, that reverse blueburst is a complex finish. I'll buy another one as a backup someday, but for now my backup "jewel blue" is fine.

It was 7 years - 87-93 inclusive (though the '93 was the LTD model only).

Nah, that isn't the worst...getting those transparent flamed maple tops are harder I think.

Could be... sure would be hard to veneer the radius shape! But the reverse blueburst itself is harder than a standard "fade to black" on the edge - as I hear it, the center black has to be laid on OVER the blue part. I may have been told wrong, though.

Radius TYPE line? Yeah they just released the S series which is pretty darn close except they aren't all round and nice. I agree that they need to bring back the Radius but with the S series doing so good I don't see them doing that in the near future. Especially since they probably think it's an "80's" guitar or something.
