American's PLEASE answer me this question...

I would like an answer to this question:

Why do so many U.S. private sellers refuse to ship to Canada?

This is my greatest annoyance. We share a border and all the same shipping companies. The difference in cost is chump change.

I'm dying to hear an answer.
Please. It's really starting to get to me.

I would have to assume it is because they think it is somehow a hassle. Shipping smaller items world wide is pretty easy with the USPS, but if you have to get UPS or FedEx involved, it can cost quite a bit.

No... not to Canada.
I will say this... UPS does have a brokerage fee scam so I personally request anybody but UPS. I don't mind USPS at all. DHL or fedex are fine too.

We don't get taxed unless the item is new.

And as for forms... the customs form is at the post office that they stick to the box and you merely have to rewrite the info that is already on the box you wrote on in the first place... the addresses of the sender and recipient... takes a minute.

BTW... thanks for the replies guys.

I print labels online and it automatically does the customs form. It really is pretty easy, but some people don't want to bother.

Re: American's PLEASE answer me this question...

I am not from Canada, I am from Greece and have bought many things from the US including guitars (mainly through *bay) Most of the sellers I have dealt with didn't have a problem shipping abroad with USPS nor declaring a lower value on a used item. USPS is super easy for you guys I believe, and is super easy for me as well.
Also a note to US sellers: You guys should relize that with the low value of the dollar right now it is much easier for you guys to sell to Europe. For instance a guitar that costs $1000 has a value of appr. 650 euro right now so it is cheap for us in Europe. Remember that a couple of years back 1 euro was appr. $1 so you can understand the difference.

I ship to Canada all the time. Just as you said, UPS ships there pretty much hassle free. You have to fill in a couple extra blanks, but that's it.

My wife and I own a candle company, and shipping to Canada or the continental US is never a problem...We also print out shipping labels right on line, that includes for Canada too.

It used to be a big batch of forms to fill out but they changed that years ago and it's rather simple now, to ship to you guys up there...

Customers used to complain about the wait in some areas, due to the Canadian postal service. USPS parcel post used to take forever in some parts of Canada. It wouldn't hit the customer for like a month. Priority mail is better, but I still think in some remote areas it's a rough deal. Some companies may not like dealing with that...

Some over seas areas like Singapore take a super long time no matter who you use...

Yeah, I don't think Canadians have done themselves any favours in this regard.

I think that a lot of bad *bay feedback has been left by Canadians because they haven't seen the item they have won for a month. Canadian Customs and Canada Post aren't known for being the speediest service providers in the world. A lot of U.S. sellers just don't want to risk the bad feedback because of slow service providers. I can't blame them.

As Ranz states, Terrence and Phillip are the prime culprits. Those beady-eyed, funny-talking, gassy sickos ruin everything for everyone! They should burn in hell next to Satan and Sadam Hussein.

All I know is that the last swirl I shipped to canada about a month ago, and about 2 others before that, were delivered in a week, and I'm in Israel.
I use EMS which is called International express mail on the usps website.
It's alot cheaper then UPS, DHL or FEDEX, it's track-able through usps website, it includes insurance and the package is delivered to the addressee doorstep.

Had to push this back up to maybe, hopefully, continue to break down some barriers. Still... many classifieds are U.S. only shipping. Annoying as heck. When I have money for you to put into your paypal... meh...

That can always be bargained with I did that with a seller in Germany once. Beg, plead, tell them it's okay if it takes until Christmas of 2011 to reach to you.

Some people just don't know how to navigate through all of the forms and such. The more experienced sellers do.
