Re: Christopher Woods?

Well, I got my guitar finally assembled with the body I had originally ordered, cancelled a year and a half later, and then picked up eventually off of the 'Bay. The trem didn't fit, and the trem routes top, bottom and center had to be enlarged. It literally cost me so much money to have the instrument assembled and setup that I can't afford to keep it! This one was hand cut, not CNC as his bodies evidently are done now, but there it is anyway. I'll post some pics tonight.

Sorry to hear that Jim. I wish you were able to get one of the later CNC bodies because the one I got was spot on.

Re: Christopher Woods?

I have purchased around 8 or so for myself and all of them were perfect, and I have gotten around 5 or 6 sent to me from people who bought them from Christopher Woods and I've yet to see one that wasn't right on the money in regards to routing, shape, neck pocket, etc. Their the nicest bodies I've seen by far in my opinion.

I'm sure he'd send you a CNC'd body if you told him all your problems...

I have to agree after talking with Chris over the last few months. He really wants his stuff to be perfect and has been great to deal with.

Re: Christopher Woods?

I agree with SCS. I have had Christopher cut me some bodies as well and the attention to detail and the workmanship has been first rate. From my perspective he has been great to work with as well. Patrick just finished painting my jem body built by Christopher, which he routed for a ZR trem and I had John Good aka "Juan Castillo" build me a neck. Should have both next week and everything put togethter shortly. Will post pics when I get it done and give a full review. I have had nothing but good experiences with Christopher, Patrick and John and highly recommend them.

Re: Christopher Woods?

I appreciate your post of confidence, Monte, as I have necks on order from both Christopher Woods and John Good.

Re: Christopher Woods?

Yeah, sorry about lack of pics, it was a busy weekend. The body I bought off the 'Bay 'as is', so I wouldn't bring it back to Chris and ask him to make changes to it or anything at this point. I think all of the issues were due to the lack of CNC, and if I keep the guitar (I wasn't kidding about the cost of getting it right) then I'll likely change the body out again in the future. I'll take some pics Wednesday morning (I have the day off) and put up some links then.

Actually, if you read through the thread, it was an Alder/purpleheart/crotch walnut body I had ordered in Jan of '05. After about 20 months and two returns to Chris for issues with the clearcoat I eventually gave up on it. He eventually threw it up on the 'Bay a few months later to get it out of his shop and I bought it then when it popped up. So, we have a long history on this body already. It is beautiful, but the pickup cavities were a bit too big (EMG big) and the trem route was too small to fit a trem in. Even after getting it routed big enough to fit the trem, the cutout under it is too shallow to allow the trem to be pulled up, just pushed down. It sounds great though, so I'll likely just play it less until I sell it or swap the body.
I don't have a problem with Chris; I wasn't trying to make that point. I didn't order this from him given the circumstances, I bought it 'as is' and he didn't misrepresent it as perfect or CNC'd.

Re: Christopher Woods?

Man I wish he'd hurry up with another update.

His last update said he worked on a lot of guitars, and i'm hoping one of them was mine.

From the last email he sent me, all that is left is the finish, the pickguard, headstock veneer, and assembly. And since it's only an oil finish, i'm hoping that it will be done soon
