Re: Christopher Woods?

My observation would be that Chris is trying to satisfy all the people all the time, but there are too many people and there is not enough time.
So he has to work longer hours, carry a heavier workload. Then something suffers, usually timescale or quality of product, or the person him/herself.
Now I've been there with the band, and I'd told Chris that; I carried much more than my fair share of weight, and Chris got a fair bit of the brunt of that from this, no wonder he thought I was weird.

But Rich hit the nail on the head, one top really wasn't up to Standard, the timescale was nuts, and look at the bad feeling that created, including me totally kicking off (Sorry). But the work was clearly not satisfactory, and the Oracle, that would be Rich, has spoken!!

He needs to cut down, he needs to cherry pick the good jobs with the bread and butter ones, and he needs to limit his work load so it's viable but not a strain. 15 orders on the go sounds real good, but he has to make it clear to everyone else 'you are on the list to get on the list, don't ring me till I ring you!'

Money wise I'm just going to have to (BIG) swallow (REALLY BIG) what this has cost (Ouch), but I can't justify pusueing a man with feedback that good!
But these are going to be special guitars if he decides to do them.

Matching Barritone uv777, and a 7vwh, both HHH config, blaze2/evos/ very nice quilt tops please, coil tap, ebony necks, all abalone binding, abalone pyramids and vine, and the 'Chris Woods Total Light Show Special'. Might there be room for a sustainer on the 7, who knows. It may never happen!

Anyway take care,
PETE

See what happens!

Re: Christopher Woods?

Additionally looks like to need to specify the scale length of your baritone. Dont leave it as guesswork because there are several lengths that would be suitable depending on how you plan to string/tune it.

Re: Christopher Woods?

Rich, I did exactly that and when I pressed reply it all jumped together. I was late for work and have just got in to sort this as a priority. The site crashed on me three times while I was trying top do it, so I don't know what was going on.

Re: Christopher Woods?

I understand but you still have to do it.

However you were trying to post it does not agree with this board, it's simple enough to just separate them.

Re: Christopher Woods?

Eelblack, yep I'm going to get my Yam drop six out in a moment and my mates coming round in a mo, but I will also need to pick your brains if that OK. Somewhere around 26/27 and a half, don't want to go as long as the 28inch Anderson classic maybe, but what a guitar that is. It's because it'll be a seven string barritone, new territory I'm afraid. See what you think! Thanks Mate

Re: Christopher Woods?

Pete, I'll email you tonight. We'll sort out all the details and I'll post them on my site.

So far, I have built 4 baritone guitars. two 27" scale. and a 30" scale, and have a 29" scale XLR8 in process. All have been hardtail. So I'll need to see what's what with how the scale might affect the tremolo.

BTW.. Been working on a baritone neck as a direct replacement for an existing guitar. If I built the body to accomodate, it could be done as a 24 fret. But as a replacement neck it could be done (depending on the scale length) by loosing the appropriate amount of frets.

Re: Christopher Woods?

The yamaha 820 I have outscored the Tom Anderson, I have an HHH and a standard. The yam neck is 26.25 but I'm waiting to see what Eely Black suggests with 7 strings and the trem.(Anderson 28.625)

Re: Christopher Woods?

Beautiful work, aren't you worried that if the neck moves even slightly it might split the neck pocket?

Aren't you worried about the access joint spliting, it looks really delicate. Beautiful work though!

They weren't on the mock up b/c they were in the middle of the lumber....whats he suppose to do start x-raying his wood before he cuts it to insure some customer doesn't go psycho when two little knots the size of a mustard seed show up?

My suggestion is have him finish up your guitars with the wood YOU SENT and ship you the two guitars and your UV back. Case closed. Or PAY him to remove the top and pay him to put a different one on.

If you don't like the quality of the wood you can start paying people in the future to x-ray your wood......God forbid you get a little knot somewhere.
It was the second body, I'm surprised you would consider it acceptable, having seen the consistent very high standerd of your work.
