Re: Christopher Woods?

I agree totally with Rich on this. It's an interesting topic. I'm a little surprised at SCS's comments since he does own a business. The fact is most everything he's selling is copyrighted. "Who cares about which ones he has "Authorized" to make, that means nothing". Wow I expected more from SCS. The difference is Frog gets paid. What about the Cheap Trick paint job from his site? The Mark Ryden guitar graphic, the Jem body shape, headstock, Performance flame? It just seems a little shady. Sorry to ramble but this is a Jemsite not Jemishsite. Even tho I think the see-thru Jem is a little dorky at least they are trying to be innovative. Which is more than I can say for people that try to relive the past.

Re: Christopher Woods?

While I understand the black and white issue of copyright, some of you are just looking for a fight.

If John Garcia gave his ok, then that is the end of it as far as the bones guitar.

The rest is not worth debating again.

I am sure Rich knows better than me, but only the headstock shape can be copyrighted.

Re: Christopher Woods?

And the headstock copyright is being violated. By Woods, Legacy, Hippo House, and enough others that it's starting to look like a free-for-all. Jeremy was the only one that did it right and would not reproduce the headstock.

Gibson came very close to winning the suit against PRS based on the singlecut body design, right up until the Gibson lawyers turned into idiots and claimed there's no way anybody could mistake a PRS SC for a Les Paul.

LOL...well the idiocy of Gibson is worthy of it's own thread.

Re: Christopher Woods?

The point of the comment is that the body was the point of that suit, and if Ibanez wanted to sue on the grounds of the JEM shape being copied they would most likely bury anybody they sued.

Re: Christopher Woods?

I think the monkey grip would be the only sticking point, but with Joe Despagni having a "handle" prior, would even that fly?

I suppose a good lawyer could twist anything.

Re: Christopher Woods?

The rights to that and the JEM name were purchased from Despagni.

Re: Christopher Woods?

Has anyone seen that Fender is going after the whole Strat shape body and all as a trademarked item? That will cause pain to EVERYONE in the guitar community who isn't building a 'licensed' fender style guitar. Suhr, Blade, whomever... Despite the infringement, I think there will always be a market for someone who can make an existing product but perhaps better attention to detail, etc, weather it's enforced as a legal issue or not.

There will always be a market for Heroin and Crack, doesn't mean it's a good business to be in.

Re: Christopher Woods?

Drugs and fun comment I guess. I haven't had anything negative happen to me or anyone close to me with drugs. I do know that they have the potential to be totally un-fun.

Re: Christopher Woods?

Yeah, well, I have. I think I can say pretty much whatever I want about the topic since I've earned my wings. Having a close family member sitting in the tank because of their 'habit', and me having to play detective to hunt them down during a 2 week grand larceny spree, sitting with them detoxing in my lap, visiting them behind glass... Yeah, I can say whatever the hell I want on the topic... How's that for being a dick?!

And furthermore, are you waiting on a part from Chris? no? then STFU.

I take it you're talking to nosdrahcir.

But if you were talking to me (regardless actually), sorry to hear about your buddy or relative.
