Classified suggestion?

I was just thinking, yeah it's right that e-bay items shouldn't be listed in the classfieds, but how about using it to bring in some money? Hear me out...

What if, you could get permission to advertise a guitar you're putting on e-bay by paying a fee (maybe $15) via PayPal? I think it'd help put a few spondoolickers into the site maintence/Glen's pocket (if he wanted) and also help people sell there guitars.

The only drawback I can think of is the mods would have to keep a super-tight reign on the classifieds.

Thoughts anyone?

Re: Classified suggestion?

You don't think this might conflict with e-bay's policies in some way?

Re: Classified suggestion?

I shouldn't think it would, plus it'd get them some cash too (not that they need it )

Re: Classified suggestion?

Just so I'm clear, it would work in a similar way to how a vendor would advertise. You just state the guitar and it's number (along with pics and a description if you want) then it get's locked so it can't keep getting bumped.

But there again, we're only doing a similar thing to the "Auctions to laugh at" thread.

It'd be a damn cheek of e-bay to get all ethical and start talking about rights and wrongs IMO.

Re: Classified suggestion?

This thing would fill up so fast with **** listings it'd knock your socks off...and then what happens when the auctions are over? Most only last 5 days...some 7, some 3. It would require another mod working full time just pruning this particular section. Meh....I'm glad auction listings aren't allowed here. It'd end up just more mud to waddle thru. Thumbs down!

I think the only way it would is if it were free. Like I say, there won't be anywhere near as many if there was some kind of fee for the privilege of doing it. It wouldn't need pruning either because if it's locked from the start, the only way for it to go is down the list. Then it's up to you if you want to look through it, because it'll be locked and if there is only one post you'll know it's an advert for a guitar on the auction site.

Re: Classified suggestion?

Because it gives people a heads-up on guitars that may otherwise slip under the radar, and again, raise funds for the site.

There isn't anything to sift through either, it's just there and if you don't want to click, don't click.

I think too many people are caught up on the 'e-bay = evil' stuff here, and I'm damn well sure there are guys that'd go for this but don't want to speak up because they don't want to go against that very notion and maybe feel that it'd make people think they're an idiot.

I think it's worth at least a trial. Hell, people may hardly use it, but how do we know if we don't try?
