Meoli [Jemsearcher for those not in the loop] Is who you sold it to. Aardvark Antiques is the supposed appraiser, and as an ISA certified appraiser no doubt has zero idea how much a DNA value would be.

Re: DNA Price - Since the VSK was fun
25k, damn it takes more than one year for me to just earn that much money, this is just shocking and disgusting :/
I could understand that unique guitars could have their price skyrocket, because, well, they’re unique, but we’re talking about a limited series… 300 guitars, that’s not quite the same thing ! Even if steve vai’s blood, swirl and so on make it a collectable piece, this is just way to much for a piece of metal and wood that will not sound nor play any better than another high end guitar.

What did DNAs cost new, if I might ask? I remember when they came out because I bought my 7VWH that same year (2000). I remember rolling my eyes at the price then, but I don't remember what it was. Turns out maybe I was the stupid one.

RRP in Australia was ~$10,000 AUD. Saw prices from $8k AUD and up though.
I didn't pay that much for mine though, and I got mine direct from the distributor pretty much.

Re: DNA Price - Since the VSK was fun
I knew this thread was going to be great! So jem searcher is offloading his DNA?? Am I understanding this correct? If so, then maybe his SFG was that amazing afterall!!!
as for replicas I have 2 guitars that are replicas. An ed roman Frankenstrat, and a GMW Randy Polka Dot V. I believe it's GMW anyways, the guy did Zak Wyldes's and it looked closer to the original than the Jackson version does. The Frankenstrat just worked out well. I'm happy with them, oh and of course my mick mar's theater of pain is a replica too.
Now some guitars I wouldn't want replicas, like my LNG or DY, I would buy them as reissues though. My Bono Irish Falcon I want authentic as well if and when I track one down.

Re: DNA Price - Since the VSK was fun
I guess I'm one of those people that looks at a guitar and says, "Its metal and wood and I make music with it."
I'm a bigger JEM fan then I am a Vai fan.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a big Vai fan.
If he left Ibanez and started playing some other brand of guitars, I'd still be playing JEMs.
A swirl having Vai's blood in it means nothing to me.
I also HATE the EVO beat to hell replicas.
I will be having a custom made JEM DNA clone made in the near future because I like the look of the guitar.
I own enough real JEMs and know the right people to make it for me.
It will look like a real DNA or better for so much less money.

That's my feeling exactly. I have a very strong emotional connection to the early 777 Jems, as they were totems of my youth. Everything that followed, less so.
The DNA is gorgeous, but I would never spend 5 figures on an ultimate tribute guitar, which is what the DNA is for me. However, if I was a 'gotta-have-it' collector I would understand the need -- it's the top of the tree.

Yeah but, frankly, I think that's not half a bad price for a GMC...

I don't like it eaiter and searching for GMC on abay didn't turn it up on my PC so I don't know if it'll sell.
My point is though that there are on 365 of these (as I know of at least one that was destroyed) so if you want an example this rare guitar from 20 years ago, I don't think that's a bad price.
The other thing is one person's "killer swirls" is another one's "meh".
There are a couple of DNAs that infamous collectors have nabbed that I really don't like and I'm sure there are other examples of the "
vice versa
" thing too..
It's an original and it's cheap for what it is in my book.
