E-bay to stop sellers from leaving feedback

I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing, but e-bay are set to stop sellers from leaving anything but positive feedback (or no feedback.)

Check out it here:

Well this forces the seller to be more reputable...which is good

And gives the power to the buyer to screw the seller over, without retaliation which is not fair.

I've sold on there and had a woman who decided after 3 weeks she didn't want the item and slammed me on the feedback...it is what it is unfortunately

Re: E-bay to stop sellers from leaving feedback

I like the pecentage of feedbacks being over the past 12 months

not too sure about sellers not being able to leave feedback though... but like the other poster said, it may make sellers more 'customer focussed'

one thing they should bring is to stamp out those w-anker's who continually list items and pull them with 24 hours to go. If they want an appraisal they should queue up to go The Antiques Roadshow

I agree to a point, but we all have a threshold below which we'd rather simply hang onto something rather than firesale it if we have a choice - if it's someone who tries to run a business out of selling, I suppose they don't really have a lot of choice but to pull something before they lose their shirt, eh?

That's what reserve prices are for.

if they have a price in mind that they wish to realise for their item they should list the item at that price or put a reserve on it

why waste their time and potential buyers time

I've sold quite a bit on e bay and the few items I've sold which I *needed* to hit a certain price, I've listed the item at that price. Only once did I not achieve the price I wanted. I listed a 2nd time and it still didn't sell.

Lesson learned was that I'd over valued my item. You win some you lose some

I think this will be a good thing. At least it will prevent "power sellers" from abusing their position and trying to screw the little guy, like what happened to me:

Being a "power seller" really doesn't mean much. I am now a power seller because when I sold my Jems I sold over $15k worth of stuff in less than a month. They emailed me and said "you are now a silver level power seller, click here to accept" and I did. Nothing has changed except I have a phone number to call for **** customer service. Point being, power sellers don't really have a position, just normal dudes like me who sell junk. I think I'm a little guy still .

Re: E-bay to stop sellers from leaving feedback

you forgot to mention this:
Buyers will be held more accountable when sellers report an unpaid item or commit other policy violations.
When a buyer doesn't respond to the Unpaid Item (UPI) process the negative or neutral Feedback they have left for that transaction will be removed.
Buyers must wait 3 days before leaving negative or neutral Feedback for sellers with an established track record, to encourage communication.

It's not like all sellers will be depended on the buyers mercy

Feedback Changes
The **** Feedback system was designed to provide a simple, honest, accurate record of member experiences. Focusing on customer service includes doing everything we can to grow customer confidence in our sellers.
Buyers will only be able to receive positive Feedback.
Positive repeat customer Feedback will count (up to 1 Feedback from the same buyer per week.)
Feedback more than 12-months old won't count towards your Feedback percentage.
When a buyer doesn't respond to the Unpaid Item (UPI) process the negative or neutral Feedback they have left for that transaction will be removed.
When a member is suspended, all their negative and neutral Feedback will be removed.
Buyers must wait 3 days before leaving negative or neutral Feedback for sellers with an established track record, to encourage communication.
All Feedback must be left within 60 days (compared to 90 days today) of listing end to encourage timely Feedback and discourage abuse.
Buyers will be held more accountable when sellers report an unpaid item or commit other policy violations.

Re: E-bay to stop sellers from leaving feedback

LOL Sellers shouldnt need mercy, they just need to follow through. Its pretty easy, someone buys an item the seller ships the item. Simple!

I buy mostly but do sell sometimes too, I can tell you most my problems on the bay have been wishy washy sellers ***** footing around after they get your money. Sellers want their money fast but take their time getting your item to you or send it cheaply or over charge for shipping.

I am very happy about the changes, Im sick of giving sellers undeserved feedback because they use yours as ah weapon. The buyer should be given feedback as soon as the money is in the sellers hand. After the item has been drop off to the buyer and looked over then feedback is given to the seller, simple!! This is how things should be and anyone who wines about it is trying to cover gilt.

You can say "wahhh, the buyer is being a dick" or "the buyer is being picky" You wanted to sell something? You want to make money? Then learn some PR customer service and that what it comes down to. You just made a "Business transaction" your number one thing should be to make sure that transaction is completed.

But there is good news for you sellers! You dont have to! Thats right! You dont have to sell at all! WOW! "You mean I have a choice?" Yes!

Rant over

Re: E-bay to stop sellers from leaving feedback

looks like an improvement but the way they worded it was terrible.

right now sellers need to report unpaid items then go thru a littany of nonsense, including allowing the buyer to dispute it and post negative feedback (inappropriately)

it seems that sellers can now zap all bad feedback given by deadbeat buyers IF the process completes and the item remains unpaid. At the same time sellers can't rate buyers which is logical - someone either paid or didn't - what is there to rate... glen

I love the people who never leave me feedback at all. Even after I leave feedback to them.

Re: E-bay to stop sellers from leaving feedback

it's happened again today....

I was bidding on 3 guitars by the same seller - 2 Ibanez's and a Swamp Ash Special PRS. A mate emailed me at work saying that the seller had updated his listing saying words to the effect that if he the bidding doesn't go up on a guitar he'll pull the item as he wasn't prepared to 'give it away'

fookin shameless... if he want's a certain price he should list it at that price or put a reserve on. I retracted all my bids on all of his items in a fit of pique
