ebay newbie (sorta looking for jem7vwh)

So, I'm sort of looking for a jem7vwh (after hanging around this place... getting the GAS attack) and new ones seem to go for around $1800 around where I live, and I kind of prefer the ebony fretboard, so I'm sort of looking around in shops for used ones, and of course, there aren't any.

So, I'm poking around on ebay, and I see a couple with no bids yet, but I'm leery of dropping ~$US1500 or so on ebay being a complete newbie (I don't even have an account on ebay at this point) and reading some stories about people being ripped off and so on.

Any advice on how to best learn about ebay? How to safely spend that kind of money on ebay? Seems like there are some sharks in the waters.

If you're looking for Jem's, this is one of the best places to look, there are always VWH's on here for sale, I have one right now for sale. With ebay, feedback ratings are the best place to start in safe buying, if they have neg feedbacks be careful. weigh the neg's with the positives and be smart about it.

for that kinda money, you might consider getting a J-Custom 8670.
much better value for that price...and that's about how much they're going for.

Compared to the 7VWH the 8670 is a really rare guitar. I only know of one person here who bought one and that was agquake, and you got his, right?
I agree though, I'd get an 8670 over the 7VWH too (and it would look nicer with my 9570) if I could find one.

8670, eh? Like this?

Wow, that is nice, that blue one seems to be pretty clost to the guitar I described as what I would have as my "signature" guitar in a thread here...

I have a blue one (yes, Agquake's).

It's beautiful AND has unbelievable tone AND plays amazingly well.

THey're not hard to come by if you don't mind ordering from Japan.

I'm wondering why Rich hasn't started stocking these yet.

3. Anybody can order from Japan, don't need me.
4. How am I supposed to make any money on them when ,see 3,

I think the wait from Ishibashi can be as long as 6 months, and I believe that's after you've paid full or half up front. I wish Ibanez would make a few available here in the States anyway, I'd love to get one. Maybe with the release of a few in Europe they'll follow suit here. Only time will tell I guess.

I sent an email to Ishibashi enquiring some stuff and never got a reply, is that 'normal' or what?

I hope you wrote it in Japanese

Kidding aside, I don't recall whether i ever asked them a question - i only ordered knobs from them once and they came sooner than expected and they did send a confirmation email soon after i placed the order.

I don't know if this helps you, but that was my experience with them.

PS: I just checked - I did ask them a question and the reply came from Koichi Tanimoto

As it happens, I just ordered an RG8670 from Ishibashi. (Thanks kennydoe, for turning me on to that axe.) Pretty straightforward, just email them in English. Well, straightforward so far. I haven't actually got the guitar yet, and there's a bit of a wait, as Rich noted.

Congrats on your order. You won't be disappointed!

...and if you ARE disappointed, there are more than a few people here who'd love to get their hot little hands on one - should be pretty easy to get your money back - even turn a profit.

what color didja get?
