Has Anyone Seen the 'Rare Jem Prototype' on the bay?
Hmm,. it's item number 180112839974 and is claimed to be a rare prototype assembled for Vai prior to release of the Jem. There are a worrying few discrepancies: it says it's assembled from a 550 body and a 777 neck- well surely if it was a prototype there wouldn't have been any 550 bodies around. The 777 neck looks like a DY with a painted headstock (masked so the Ibanez logo still shows!)
Seems a bit rude that the guy is advertising a modded Rg550 body with a
Jem neck
as a prototype to try to bump the price up!
What do you think?

I'm with you, it is a BS story. It is obviously a DY neck that had the headstock masked and repainted. And on the back of the neck where it bolts on, the one spot where the evidence would be, oh look, there is a piece of brown tape right on the spot where it would say "DY" which would prove it wasn't a prototype. What a douche.

Re: Has Anyone Seen the 'Rare Jem Prototype' on the bay?
I would pay $300 for the neck alone, but with the body I would only pay $150

What a douche.
Actually, that's not a piece of tape but rather a shim which is very common.

It's a piece of tape that is meant to look like a shim (that is just coincidentally right over where it would say "DY".

Re: Has Anyone Seen the 'Rare Jem Prototype' on the bay?
It's a torn shim. The neck wouldn't say DY, or SK, or LNG, it'll only say 777 since all 3 share the same neck except for the color the head is sprayed, in which case you don't need a heel stamp to tell you what color it is
