Have I been ripped off?
Well, I bought a guitar off the bay Thursday Oct 9th.
The listing seemed pretty legit, showing the dings and serial number etc etc.
The seller’s feedback was weird. He has only 6 feedbacks, one of them was negative as he seemed to have committed to pay for something but did not. However, despite the one negative feedback, his score was only 50%. Not sure why this is. Please let me know your thoughts.
So, I chose to take the risk based on what I had read.
Here’s what happened, so you be the judge…..
I paid through PayPal immediately after the auction ended. I then received the confirmation email from PayPal and another from PayPal Postage giving me a Parcelforce tracking number where I could track the package. Except everytime I tried the link on the Parcelforce website, over the next few days, it did not seem to show the info I wanted to see.
This has happened to me before so I decided to wait it out.
Here’s the email chain. I’ve changed the names….
Chimp – Sent Thursday 9th Oct: Hi there, I won the (guitar), please let me know if payment has been received. Also, please let me know how you will be shipping it to me. Regards, Chimp (then my mobile number).
Seller – Sent Saturday 11th Oct: Hi there, just to let you know i will be posting the guitar first thing Monday (13th Oct), i apologise for the delay but im working all day tomorrow and it cant be done sunday for obvious reasons.
Hope this is ok, thanks.
Nearly a week later I wrote:
Chimp - Sent Friday 17th Oct: Hi John, it's still not arrived. What Parcelforce delivery time was it? The tracking number you gave me is not working on their site.
Chimp
Seller- Sent Monday 20th Oct: hi mate sorry for the lack of communication, had a hectic week! Parcelforce contacted me on Thursday (16th Oct) saying there was some sort of delay with the package, they said it will be with you some time this week. Sorry for any inconveniance this has caused mate.. Cheers and hope you like the guitar when it arrives! Regards, John.
Today (Wed 22nd Oct) I called Parcelforce customer service quoting my tracking number and the operator told me that the package was not in their possession and that it was still with the seller as they had not been able to pick it up WTF?!!
Have I been had????

Re: Have I been ripped off?
Its hard to tell. The operator at Parcelforce customer service could have been wrong or not looked up the right number. Is there buyer insurance with paypal? Have you emailed the seller since you've spoken to Parcelforce?

Re: Have I been ripped off?
Just checked again with Parcelforce and they have no record of it being picked up on the 9th, 13th or 16th....
Although, they cannot guarantee that the job is not being processed....so now I'm really confused.
I'm starting to think that this item has been lost in a sea of tracking numbers and a bit of dishonesty/slackness from the seller....

Re: Have I been ripped off?
If you feel uneasy, contact paypal get your cash back and wait for the seller to produce a legitimate shipping confirmation. That's happened to my wife and I (only once or twice in 10 years mind you
) where we'll fvck up and forget to ship/misplace an order, because things do happen unfortunately, and paypal notifies us and we show the shipping confirmation and everything is good. That's how paypal kind of protects the buyer...Good luck with it, but my first impression of this scenario, is that the guy's a bit lazy about packaging up and shipping your item. I would still contact paypal ASAP...

I was thinking that but that means I have to raise a dispute (which I can do within 45 days) and I don't wanna jeopordise this sale as it's a great guitar for a great price
I think I'll raise the dispute tomorrow if he has not emailed me back...then let PayPal do the chasing...

Re: Have I been ripped off?
Contacting paypal via a dispute would do nothing more than light a fire under this tools @ss, to ship the guitar. One is either good on their word or not, calling them out on their integrity would not change their standing...But one day waiting isn't going to kill you, and you know that...Whatever happens I hope it is positive for both of you...
