Help from the pros please
Hey all...........
I just got off vacation, so I was gone for a week! Didnt notice? Eh........I didnt think so!
Anyway, Im posting this here instead of the "tech" section for, well, I think the reason is obvious.
I have a 7620 that I want to do a tabbacco
sunburst
on it. I went to "project guitar" and I see how to do the burst part with the paint on the edges, but..........
the one thing I cant seem to find is, how do I blend, or burst the two stains? Im basicly using honey colored for the center, and a red mahogany for the inside edge before I do the outside edge with black paint. Any suggestions?
Ive done stains before, but only solid colors. How do I do that nice feathered edge between the two stains? This is a personal project for myself.........I aint trying to get into the business of re-finishing guitars
Thank you so much in advance!!!!

Re: Help from the pros please
Heyyyyyyyyyy
How ya doin Avi?
Thanks for noticing!!!!
Actually, that link, Ive already looked at. I realize I can use that technique to do the sides & edge of the body, but what Im trying to figure out is, I want to go from a honey colored stain in the center, then into a red mahogany stain just outside that, "then" use that spray technique to feather the side & edges. Im not sure how to blend or "fade" the honey into red and make it look good.
Any thoughts swirl master???

Re: Help from the pros please
Yeah, I just noticed you said you've already been to projectguitar, hence my edit reason.
other then that, I have no idea. swirling has nothing to do with guitar painting technics like bursting so I'm as clueless as you.

Re: Help from the pros please
Hey Jaden.......
Thanks for asking......
Hand applied stain. Ive used sponge brushes and/or rags..........but to answer the question, yeah, its hand applied, not sprayed. But something tells me, the more I think about it, Im gonna have to use a spray type stain using the above mentioned technique from project guitar huh?
Hey Avi?
Its ok brother..........as awesome as your swirls are, perhaps..................
yes, just perhaps......... its time to broaden your horizons. Expand your creativness.
Throw caution to the wind! Indulge your artisticness.........
awwww heck...... just try doing some other finishes! Something tells me they would be
pretty dang bad *ss lookin!

Re: Help from the pros please
well, I can burst hand applied stain bursts.
using water based dyes, it involves a bit of elbow grease..
I use a french polishing type pad(s), plenty of water and lots of patience.
its all in the prep mate as usual though.

Re: Help from the pros please
Right. But it's a lot easier to spray it. If you don't want to spend much money, you can pick up an inexpensive airbrush for very little money.

Re: Help from the pros please
I appreciate the input!!!
But for argument sake, lets say I cant spray it.
How do I blend them with hand applied stain? What kind of technique do I use?
Again.............Im not asking for some acient martial arts secret to start my own business
Im just trying to do a project on my own as inexpensive as I can
Thanks again for any & all comments!

Re: Help from the pros please
Who says you can't spray it? Re-Ranch has all the correct colors in the rattle can and even has an excellent how to on doing a burst finish.

No problem man.

Make sure you read the tutorials and check the forums. All you need to know about refinishing guitars.
The only complaint I have is the owners take frequent vacations, so ordering stuff can be a pain.
