Here is the email from Herc, FYI:
Hello everyone,
First off, Jess and I are sorry for not sending an update in over a month. We have spoken with many of you in the past month with updates on your orders. We will send out an actual order update tomorrow or Thursday.
Right now, we just want to say that we are very sorry to announce that we will no longer be accepting any kind of
custom swirl order after June 2008. This decision will be indefinite. I have been so stressed out and have just taken on too much that it's affecting my health negatively again....and this is the red flag that tells me it's time to stop how I am doing things and just finish up the orders. I need to be there for my wife and my little boy.... I haven't been able to enjoy his first year of life as much as I would have liked because of all the insanity of trying to operate a one-man factory.
This means that I am pulling out all the stops to ensure your happiness and satisfaction with your final Herc work of art. It also means that your swirl will probably be worth much more once word gets out that I'm not doing custom work anymore. I have even considered selling my trade secrets but Jess is not sold on that just yet. It's like selling the formula to Stradivari's famous violin varnishes....well, maybe not quite!
My main priority is to get the last 15 orders done and to finish up all the backordered swirled bodies for my distributor, Max Cottam, in the UK. He's been so incredibly patient with me.
Some of you have taken me up on the offer for a free swirl in exchange for you paying my guy in California to do the clearcoat for your swirl to speed up completion of your order. If anyone else is interested, please let me know. The time to speak is now.
Thank you to all of you for being so amazing and wonderfully patient with me. I apologize for such long turnaround times but I have had to endure so many challenges and obstacles...and I don't send anything out that isn't my very best.
My new website will be for show purposes only after June...
Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts,
Herc, Jess and Clark
