How buying from US and shipping to France ?

I'm looking for a safe way to buy a guitar to a US citizen and have it sent in France. I need a process where I pay price of the guitar, shipping costs, legal taxes and insurrance, all upon receiving the guitar as I find fair that the seller has its money (without additional charge) once I have the guitar.

From what I learnt, UPS offers this possibility. The problem is that (at least in France) they do not accept to do it once and for individuals (they want at least 3 shipping a month by or to a commercial company ).

Is there any firm offering the same guarantees than UPS, same possible process but for individuals ? Or, is there a way to proceed that would fit the situation ? I mean I'm reluctant to do money orders or stuff like that without having the safety guitar in hands.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Thanks Cerealk. I had seen this one. But it is more question of cheaper ways to ship or of more of less fast ways to have the guitar. My worry is not costs or length. I worry for peaceful transaction (guitar in hands = I pay the seller + supports taxes, transport services and so on). That's what UPS offers but (apparently ?) only to companies. So, I wonder if there is an equivalent company for people selling and buying sutffs internationally. What is SURFACE services ?

No one and I mean NO ONE will ship a guitar before you pay in full for it and the shiping charge.
Just buy from a reputable dealer and ask around before you make the purchase.
You shouldn't have to worry if you are buying a brand new guitar from a shop/Rich/Matt or some of the trusted guys on this forum.
If you want to get a guitar off ****, then you'll have to pay and keep your fingers crossed that the seller is not a jerk.

I'm pretty sure that no one will ship anything without geting payment first.

All right Dex. But, with UPS the advantage is, once both parties agree with the price, the seller obtains payment through UPS (with the COD process) once the guitar in the hands of the seller and the seller can only has the guitar in hands if payment is made. I fine this process fine and really safe for everyone. Unfortunately, once again, it is reserved to companies and not to natural persons/private sellers (that's anyway my understanding but I may be wrong !).

You might try to find an escrow service. You send them the money and they hold your payment until you get the merchandise and once you give the OK they send the money to the seller.

Do you, Rich, or anyone else have boundaries of a reliable escrow firm that would operate in NY/OHIO states and which gave you full satisfaction ? Seems to me that the option FedEx + Escrow could be a reliable option.

To those who work through UPS services (Rich you are always of still of appreciated help ), how do you manage to do so as natural persons for one and a sigle shipping ? Is that true that UPS only do business with companies and not with natural persons ?

Thanks a lot to everyone and hope I'm not abusing.

Half the reliable firms I used to know of are not in buisness anymore. Check to see who **** is recomending [but I think they bought up a couple and they can only be used for **** purchases, or something like that]

Anybody can ship UPS but you have to have an account to do international COD [and a buisness is only goijng to use it with trusted customers because it's very easy to get burnt sending COD, UPS does not guarantee the funds are good]

If what you are really after is a reliable and safe transaction on a Jem (this is Jemsite, right?), and you want to take advantage of the lower prices/higher availability that dealing through the US gets you, then you should get something from one of the sponsors at the top of this page and forget all your worries. If you want to go as cheaply as possible, and that is your main concern, then I don't know what to tell you. The sweetness of a bargain is quickly overwhelmed by the bitterness of poor quality.

If for example you bought a guitar from Rich, you'd certainly get it and it would be better than described. You can't honestly expect better than that from a stranger. If you've found some crazy deal somewhere and are now looking for a secure way to pull it off, you should reconsider the certain deal and leave the crazy ones to the locals. If certainty is what you're really after, it is plainly and clearly available.

Yeah, I'll second what jim777 said. Maybe you might pay a small amount more but it's absolutely worth it it you buy from Rich. Rest assured you get what he describes and you'll get it quickly and safely AND a fantastic professional setup. You won't be disappointed - can you same the same with your current deal? Just my 2 cents!
