How much would you pay for this UV77MC?

http://www.mindsongs.com/universe/universe.htm

All-in-all, the guitar is very good condition, considering its age. There is very little tarnishing on the tremolo. The pickguard is bowed a bit in front of the trem. It's also signed by Steve Vai (with pics to prove it).

Please let me know what you think. I don't necessarily want to sell it. I just am curious as to what you guys think it's worth. Thanks!

Hi,
What kind of MC is this? Was it re-swirl?

I've spoken with people at Hoshino, Rich at IbanezRules, and talked with Darren at ATD. Due to the blues and purples, they're all fairly certain this guitar is a reswirl. Darren's 95% sure it's not one of his, and thought it was probably done by Herc Fede (who he openly said does nice work).

The guitar IS a UV-77 though (as seen on the stamps on the body and neck). It has been suggested that it most likely started its life as a MKR swirl.

So what do you guys think its worth? What would you pay for it? Thanks!

I reackon you could get at least $2000 for it. I'm in no way an expert but as these thing go for like $2600+ it should be worth at least $2000 for re-sell.
I don't know what the official verdict is on this but I think as it's been repainted it may loose some value. BUT I think it looks very nice so it depends on your buyer. If your asking about the price for insurance value I'd put it at $2800, best to be on the safe side.

Typically Herc would sign the neck pocket, which is why I though ATD. Maybe he didn't since it originally was a swirl.

Odd follow-up:

I knew the guitar looked familiar. It was on the cover of a card my parents gave me for my 23rd birthday (5 years ago). I found the card and it's an exact match. How ironic is that??

Doesn't look like an ATD or a Herc.
The colors used don't look like Darren's colors.
Herc's usually have minimal blending, definitive lines between colors.

colors are off from a MC but it looks more ATD and unlike a MKR or Herc's swirl to my eye. Of course in person it will look totally different.

The clearcoat should tell you, as if it's not thick then it's not an ibanez original finish.

it's worth what someone will pay. a non-original UV77MC loses alot of value, as it falls into "player" category not "collector". The odd coloration will pose a problem, since you are not the original owner with receipt of purchase... glen

I understand your point about the collecter vs. player perception.

IMHO, the swirls are kewl but the original colors are hella ugly. The one I have looks like a pack of highlighter markers melted onto the body, but I still far prefer its look to that of the originals. I like most of the custom jobs on this site more than the original too. Another cool thing I noticed about mine is that its colors seem to match the disappearing pyramid inlay color scheme. A friend pointed out that it'd probably look pretty sweet under a black light. Maybe I'll tote my guitar into a strip club or something...heh.
