I GOT SCAMMED OUT OF $1200!!??
There was an auction here a few days ago for a LNG
Ibanez Jem
. I put a bid of $1200 on the guitar. I did not win the auction, but I was contacted a day later by **** giving me a second chance at my bid. I contacted the email address that was given to me, the guy said he would sell me the guitar for the $1200, I thought it was a dream come true. He told me he was in the UK at the moment attending his little sisters wedding, but his cousin would ship me the guitar using his shipping acount as soon as he got the money in the UK. He sent me his square trader info and everything. I dont use pay pal so he suggested Western Union, ok no problem, I have used it before, I have also bought from the UK, so I did not see anything wrong at the time. He had a very good E-bay score, so I trusted him. I sent the money via WU to the UK. He did not respond to my emails for a day or so, then when he does respond to my emails, his responses make no sense, telling me to give him the WU info when I had already gave it to him 2 times and something about cars?? So, I was only communicating through email, so I sent a message to the **** account, the real owner of the guitar and real owner of the account massaged me and told me to call him asap. The guy said he had been recieving emails about his guitar, that someone had been sending second chance's using his account somehow, I am sure the guy was telling the truth. So, someone in the UK hacked his account, sent out several second chance's and I got screwed out of all my money. That was all the money I have, I had been saving that cash to get me another good Ibanez guitar. Now I have no money in my account and no Jem. Any suggestions as to what I should do to maybe put an end to this scam?
thanks, Josh

Re: I GOT SCAMMED OUT OF $1200!!??
Fake second chance offers are one of the most common scams on e-bay. As soon as they said Western Union you should have realized it was a con [actually as soon as you got the email offerring the guitar for what was probably your shown bid in the bid history]. You'll probably find you'll get nowhere with your local police, although you should at least make an attempt with Scottland Yard, unfortunately the end result is a hard learned life lesson.

Re: I GOT SCAMMED OUT OF $1200!!??
I had the same thing happen to me about a month ago on a
Mesa Boogie Mark
IV Combo. Fortunately for me I got really suspicious when asked to send money through Western Union when "his" auction stated P*yP*l only accepted. Yeah, he claimed he was in the UK on business and that his wife would send it out from the states, but I had to sent the money to the UK. Things that make you go hmmmm. I as a result of not winning this auction got 2nd chances from about 8 different people on the same item. Watch out for the scammers. EVILBAY STATES THAT YOU SHOULD CHECK YOUR EVILBAY MESSAGES IN YOUR EVILBAY ACCOUNT FOR 2ND CHANCE OFFERS. IF THEY SHOW UP THERE, THEN THEY ARE LEGIT. ANY WND CHANCE OFFERS THAT SHOW UP ONLY IN YOUR REGULAR EMAIL IS GENERALLY FAKE.

Re: I GOT SCAMMED OUT OF $1200!!??
I also almost got scammed with a UV. Gaztop saved my ass that time, because a friend of his had ACTUALLY BOUGHT the guitar I was showing here. It was also an "offer" to buy the guitar directly w/o the bay.
NEVER TRUST MAILS WITH SECOND OFFERINGS FOR A PRODUCT YOU HAVE BID FOR ON THE BAY!!!! This is a typical bay scam!
I'm very sorry to hear about your loss.
Regards,
D.

That's terrible, i feel really sorry for you, Josh.
Unfortunately, what Rich said about Western Union is true. As a buyer using WU, you have absolutely no recourse if something goes wrong (as you've just found out).
Some people say that using a Credit Card online isn't good either, but i prefer going that route on bigger purchases over Direct Deposits etc, at least you have some form of recourse if something goes awry.
I would definitely contact Scotland Yard if i were you. If they can't help at least they should be able to put you in contact with a department who investigate internet fraud.
I really hope this scumbug gets bad karma 1,000 fold for what they've done.

That sucks dude, that almost happened to me but I sent the email to evilbay asking them if it was legit, and it wasn't. Someone broke into an legit evilbay members account and used that as his front to try and scam me. I hope you get your $ back and the ahole that did that to you gets his arms ,legs, and every other bone in his pathetic body broken. The bastard must die!!!!

It's ended, and you got scammed.
Sorry to hear about it. Sucks big time. Contact the police anyway. With enough calls about this scammer they may find him some day. Maybe through his email addy they can figure something out.
