Ibanez Parts Prices Go INSANE!!!!

Ok, really, have people lost their minds????? A couple of weeks ago, I bought an RG760 neck, in really nice shape, for $120, what I figured was a pretty good deal, but not TOO far off. More recently, an RG750 neck sold at auction for $380!!!! How big an idiot do you have to be to pay $380 for an RG750 neck, when you could buy the whole damn guitar for less than that any day of the week on eBay??

There's been a trend of outrageous pricing on parts lately. Neck screws and bezels for an AANJ Ibanez sold for over $40 a while back. There's currently several sets listed for $30! You can buy NEW ones from StewMac for under $10. I've seen square-heel plain-jane RG570 necks go for over $200. When you can buy a complete RG570 for $250-$300, it doesn't make sense. If it was a really RARE part, I could see it, but these are stock RG parts, people. Prestige necks, J Custom necks (perish the thought!), sure, but an RG570????

There's at least three people I know on eBay right now who are buying up RG500 and RG700 series guitars specifically to part them out. I have no problem with that, as it provides a nice little market for parts for yours truly. It's the rediculous prices these parts are getting that makes me question the eBay gene pool.

I know, I know. If they'll pay it, what's my problem? No problem, I guess. I just like to bitch.

Re: Ibanez Parts Prices Go INSANE!!!!

Well, as I understand, Ibanez charges something like $400 for a replacement neck out of warranty, and requires the original neck to be exchanged under warranty?

It seems like a lot, but the idea is to prevent people from going into business making their own bodies and passing them off as custom Ibanez. Yeah, it sucks on the player's end, but as you said you can fing a 570 used for $300 if you're careful, so there's options, and they wouldn't be doing it if it wasn't a realistic risk...

The screws are just e-bay idiocy, probably- people don't know they're available for less than that new. I mean, i'd imagine your average consumer would check e-bay before a dedicated source like stew-mac, right?

it's not just ****...plain old Ibanez dealers ripping people off to the tune of $40 for a neckplate. A piece of metal cut in a square with 4 holes in it.

Ridorkulous

Ya know if you took a $20,000 car and built it from parts, the parts would cost you $200,000. So I guess everybody in the parts business is just ripping off Joe Blow for the fun of it, right?

Re: Ibanez Parts Prices Go INSANE!!!!

There's a new RG1570 neck going for ~$300 on e3ay (item #7305247207)! That's crazy. You could probably get a *complete* used RG570 for $300!

This "Guitar Parts Unlimited" that frequently sells on e3ay---all their items sell for way, way more than they're worth. And their items often have several bids within the first few hours after posting. They've got to be shilling, but I haven't been able to prove it...

An RG570 for $300 would be a steal in Norway, even a neck at that price is unheard of - as there are none available. As the US$ is so little worth, it's cheaper for me to buy expensive parts from the US, than to buy a complete guitar in Norway. Sorry to boost your prices, it's still a blessing for others. Thanks Michael.

Re: Ibanez Parts Prices Go INSANE!!!!

BTB007: If the EPII you're talking about is the one on e3ay, if you look at the pics I think it's actually an Edge Pro. And since many people have never seen the EP up close, they don't realize the saddle contact points are additional piece s of metal. They think those pieces of metal make it a piezo bridge.

It still shouldn't sell for that much, though...

Re: Ibanez Parts Prices Go INSANE!!!!

i think its less expensive if you buy the whole guitar which has more than one part you need 4 example electronics, neck, tuners and then sell the rest and get some money back

Re: Ibanez Parts Prices Go INSANE!!!!

Im putting together a guitar part by part.
trem- cant quite remember, think around 150
pickups-about 195
pickguard and other plates-125
electronics/all other hardware except trem-like a little over 200 maybe
neck- 400 some
body- just under 400
knobs-7 bucks
neck plate-40 bucks

Total: Around 1500. Probably closer to 1600. Yeah its definately cheaper to buy a production guitar. But that's no big surprise. I paid quite a bit for my parts, but I feel it will be worth it. Oh yeah, the body is custom so its not like I bought an ibanez one off the bay. same with the guard and plates. trem, pickups, neck, and knobs came from ****. Everything else was bought new.....

.....I love being left handed

Re: Ibanez Parts Prices Go INSANE!!!!

why do you need neck for 400 when you can get a guitar for 400 and get neck, knobs, neck plate, electronics and more stuff from it, get custom body and it will cost way less. . . and then just throw away what you dont need

Re: Ibanez Parts Prices Go INSANE!!!!

Well I think spare parts is always expensive.. I've got this bike once ... then one they I break it's clutch handle and went and buy it ... Goddamn it's so expensive... So I've decided to ask all the spareparts to make up the bike including the engine.. It's 2.5 more expensive then to buy the new one
