Vendors, Auction & Reseller Talk
Not for posting JEM/UV ads. Not for posting dealer/broker ads. Not for advertising ebay auctions. This is to chat about resellers, various gear in question, odd items or the people selling them.

jemsite classifieds
i've noticed quite a few "newcomers" with ads for Jems with very little info and i just get a "shady" feeling from them. there just seems to be a lot of them right now and they don't post locations. maybe it is just me being over-cautious, it just seems odd. i haven't emailed any of the people so my remarks could be totally off-base. i was just wondering if anybody else thought it to be odd.

I know what you're saying, but I don't particularly think it's odd. A lot of newcomers leave off a location, like it's an afterthought. Because they're new they don't realize it hurts their chance at a sale, where it would hardly affect them if they were just bs'ing in another area. Also, since this is a Jem site (make that THE Jem site) you could see how some people might think they'd get more than average price here because of the audience. Completely backward, but at least understandable. The lack of pics and thorough descriptions is also just newness I think, and a lack of familiarity with the board.

i was giving them the benefit of the doubt- although there are many new members that have less than 5 posts that have placed an add in the last week - seems like a lot - or at least more than usual. maybe just a coincidence.

I've always kind of had that vibe too...I mean, anyone can get a jemsite account to sell stuff...what's stopping them from making a shady deal?

i know it's always "buyer beware" and i don't want to pick on newcomers (as we once all were), it just seems sketchy with all the scammers taking advantage of the Jem market.
it would take a full time person to be a monitor or even escrow deals to be safe - not at all possible. i suppose if you get ALL the info (phone # that works, address - not po box, insurance, ect.), you should have your bases covered if something does happen. i just wish there was something else that kept could keep a (sorry for the term) feedback or file/record of transactions. the only thing i suppose you could do is cross reference IF they have a record on e**y.
i will say that the people i have been lucky enough to deal with on this site have been extremely professional, honest people and that is part of what makes me a DIE HARD member to this site and i really hope to make Jemfest to shake some hands and bend some strings!!

I've noticed that a number of the newcomers are actually people who have looked at this site for a long time as guests but never posted anything. I say they are all welcome! I much prefer this than something like the Jackson/Charvel site where they trash all the newbies with their *** rules about which forums you can and cannot post simply based on how many posts you have.

I try to be pretty cautious when I buy online. I certainly will not purchase anything from someone who looks like they just showed up on Jemsite to make a sale. It does seem odd.
I just tried to find a particular user that I found while doing a search recently. He had a piece of gear that he couldn't unload, so he apparently popped up here--and who knows where else--to post a listing in the classifieds. It finally sold, but he had several posts for what appeared to be the same item.

I had a bug up my ass last night about a couple of con auctions that ended on ebay with buyers that actually thought they were real [which is why I always write as soon as it closes before any transaction takes place] and way overwrote the whole online/ebay buying/con subject to death

Common sense is the hardest thing to teach
The pattern should be right, but there's alot of factors that control how far forward or back it should be like stud placement, neck set, etc.

Oh hell yeah, I am reminded of the old Otsrich hiding it's head in the sand ;-) Many people i feel just rush in, What that song? "only fools rush in" But hopefully with our local knowledge on Jemsite, with your page (with your permission could i link to it from my site?) and countless horror stories, maybe it'll be safe trading on e*ay at some point
Dude, Actually i was joking about the trem, It's not far off at all, but i have yet to set it all up properly, pics later today :-)
Rob
