legacy one experience

well I guess this isn't a b&*^h session it's just what my experience was. everyone can take it for what it's worth.
might as well start in the beginning. I saw the original thread and the bodies and necks on ****. after talking to whom I thought was john good? at least I called john and he said hello it's me or whatever. I was never corrected on the name.
dec 9th or 10th I ordered and paid for 1 jem body and one jem neck with vine inlays. I was going to have him paint it also but after the 8 hour start to finish I decided I would be better off doing it myself or having someone with a little more time do it. so he said ok he will refund the difference no problem.
I think he was saying it would be 2-4 weeks and I said whatever it takes is fine just do a good job and don't rush through it.
on january 11th I called to see how things were going since it was at the end of the 4 weeks and he said he was getting them in that day or the next day or whatever and it would be sanded and go out on the 12th.
I was told he uses quantum shipping and I would get an email with tracking info at some point but I don't remember which call it was he told me this.
on jan. 16th I called back and it still haden't shipped and it would be sanded and ready to go out on the 17th . I said ok sounds good.
on the 19th I get a pm on jemsite saying it's done and will go out on the 20th and thanked me for having patience.
on the 25th I have not received any info or package so I called again. he did not answer so I left a message. he called back that evening and said it went out the friday before. told me he would call me back with tracking info when he gets to his computer because he is in colorado. did not call back that day.
chris called on the 26th saying he can't find any tracking info and would call me back the next day when he gets home.
1/28 I called to find something out because I still hadn't heard anything. no answer so i left a message with my phone number just in case.
chris called me back on the 29th around 6 pm and told me it still hadn't shipped out. they didn't ship it out because they didn't know what kind of nut I was putting on it? it's a freakin jem it only takes one kind. he didn't know if I had screws through the neck or not. I may be wrong but I though all locking nuts screw through the neck.
well so far today I have received the body. it was packed pretty well I do have to say. wrapped up in foam and fit in the box pretty snug. I was excited so of course I unwrapped it to find that this thing haas never even heard of a piece of sandpaper let alone touched any. there are still lines from the plain. tool marks from the router and hairs sticking up in some places. the little dings can be filled I guess but for 7 weeks from someone bad mouthing someone that takes 6 weeks I am disappointed to say the least. I wasn't looking for perfection by any means but at least do what you say you are going to do and stop with the run around games. tell me the truth and I will be fine with it. I tried to get some pics but the flash kept washing everything out. i will try to do it outside when it's not raining and the sun comes out.
hopefully when the neck arrives it will be better off.

Thanks for the info. It really gives me doubts about ordering any custom stuff.

Re: legacy one experience

Sorry about the raw deal. Hope your neck comes out better. FWIW, there is a type of Floyd Nut that you screw in through the top (but the only one I've ever seen on a guitar is one that I own), but in truth that sounds like a poor excuse. If he/they were unsure, they should have contacted you.

Re: legacy one experience

i think this experience could have been avoided with proper expectations setting on both sides. The buyer asks "what exactly am I getting?" and the seller says "this is what you are getting, exactly".

Sorry to hear of your experience.

Re: legacy one experience

well I don't mean to really bash the guys business but I always give my honest opinion when I feel it may help someone elses future. I know this is the beginning of his business so hopefully he takes this more constructively and learns from it. I was getting an un painted guitar body so if I wasn't told it was going to be sanded I would figure i got what i asked for. but to say it is going to be sanded and it's not is just wrong to me.
tara custom stuff can be great don't let this keep you from doing something you want. who knows what it would have turned out like if he painted it I might be completely happy . wait for some more reviews I am sure he is overwhelmed right now.

Re: legacy one experience

cool the picture worked. so this is an example of the tool marks I was refering too. it's not so bad just not sanded. all around the body shows each route level. I don't have photoshop nor would I be able to use it. the front of the grip were it goes up is hairy and dead middle is hairy but you can't see it well in the pic.

Re: legacy one experience

ok the first pic is the back plate included with the body. not sure what good it will do on a black guitar but hey here it is. the second pic is an original ibanez back plate. i think the cavity is a little deep. maybe twice as deep as it should be. anyway here we go with the pics. remember I am not a photographer

Re: legacy one experience

I think it looks like crap. Sorry.

Lots of sanding required, at least.

Thanks for the heads up.

Re: legacy one experience

If you are going to paint it then you have to sand it anyway. I did tell john about that sharp neck pocket thing, I'd just sand it round like on a real jem and it'll be fine.

I dont see whats majorly wrong with it other than it needs sanding.

Re: legacy one experience

on jan. 16th I called back and it still haden't shipped and it would be sanded and ready to go out on the 17th .

Sanded, being the key word. If that guitar body has ever been in the same room as sandpaper, I'd be suprised. The most disturbing thing is that when attempting to sand it, there is so little material left that it will be hard to make it look right.

That's what I see.

Disclamer : I know nothing.

Re: legacy one experience

That looks very, very rough. No sanding at all done to that body.
