local guitar shop frowns upon me

can you believe it?

i asked the guy at this local guitar shop about screws for a trem cavity cover plate on my RG. he says, "i don't even know what an ibanez rg is." the look on his face was as if he were saying, "dude, don't talk to me unless you own a guitar made prior to your birthyear." there was even a pause between 'know' and 'what' to make me feel even shottier about not being a vintage guitar player...

most of what they had there was vintage stuff. it's nice, if you want to spend $1500 on a fender strat from the 70's that's seen more hands than Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman

what's worse, they had a nice picture of Vai on this wall, but not one JEM!

i think it was the first time i had been 'scrutinized' for playing ibanez guitars. has anyone else had this happen?

Trem cavity screws are just pickguard screws, no? And i don't think Ibanez RG trem cavity cover plate screws are any different from Fender Stratocaster trem cavity cover plate screws. Screws are screws. You might even be able to find what you need at a hardware store.

Regardless, the guy obviously hates his job and doesn't give a rat's ass about his customers. Don't sweat it. Just deal with someone else.

hey! these are the kind of guys who get cool Ibanez guitars and sell them cheap for not being what they think is good. I'd look around the shop from time to time

Incorrect. Metric wood screws aren't the same as SAE. Although as I said, screws are screws, if you want the same thread you need metric screws, and, try finding cosmo in anything not factory Ibanez

If the guy doesn't know what an Ibanez RG is, he's got some serious issues...are they using SAE screws on the Japanese or other asian strats? Even on those that were built in the Fujigen Gakki Factory? (I thought that factory was comparable to Samick's plant in the 80s and they made Jacksons and Fenders/Squiers there)

I was under the impression Darren was talking about the Fender guard screws they sell in most stores which are SAE. Of course pretty much anything MIJ is going to get metric thread, try finding them here though

Yeah, this guy sounds like a bit of a twat. Like darren said, he probably doesnt give a toss about his job, and doesnt enjoy it at all. If he has never heard of an Ibanez RG, thats his problem, he doesnt know what he is missing! Let him go away and play his vintage strats - its his loss!

I had the most awesome experience in a music store today. I'd barely been in there for one minute when the sales guy shoved a VHW in my hand and nudged me into the amp room to plug it into a Bat Cat. Then he cranked it up to stage volume and let me rip the paint off the walls. THEN he dragged me to the Martins and Larrivees, showed me a 1957 Fender Music Master and a couple of $15000 Les Pauls, and a mint - literally showroom-mint - 70s P-bass. This guy has worked for Andy Timmons and Tommy Emmanuel and is just as enthusiastic about Ibanezes as he is vintage Gibsons.

He also told me a certain artist will be doing an instore there when he tours in July.
