Not to be rude, but isn't that kind of contradictory? Don't fish for offers, just put the price you want on it and post it in the ads, it'll sell or it won't.

Guitars are like cars, they loose value as soon as you drive it off the lot...

I do see your point, but you can always put the price you want on it and leave it in the classifieds, it may take a while but you never know.

Ordinary cars yes, but a sportscar (as i presume this guitar is) will slightly raise in value by the time.
Or?

Re: Much as I hate to do it
Well, personally I've never bought a used guitar but if I was to do so I would want it to be as well cared for as possible. Although I'm sure that you've taken care of our axe as best as you saw fit, I'm sure someone out there would give you a good offer for it if they saw the condition of it.
Best of luck

only if its a special guitar, limited run, rare, hard to get etc, like high end sports cars. Universes are nothing, there are around everywhere, millions made, and the fact that its a 7 string also hurts its value because not everyone wants a 7 string, and most retailers know that.
Not like J-customs, rare Jems, etc, which would hold its value a lot better.

Re: Much as I hate to do it
Lets face it, if your after a real money maker, only old Fenders, Gibsons, Rickenbackers, Martins and a few others command high prices. I think you'd be kidding yourself if your expecting a huge increase in value.

Don't do it, you will regret it. Tough it out, I know this very well, I learned my lesson.

I would say yes and no. It's kind of amazing if you think about a fifteen year old strat going for $500 or $600 compared to a fifteen year old saber going for $500 or $600. Also the saber can do a good strat and tele impersonation in positions two and four, can a tele or strat do a saber impersonation?
What you really have to consider is how many were made and how many people want them that have the money to spend. Yes back to school, supply and demand. When you buy a new guitar, you can say I won't sell it if I'm going to loose my ass, but you already lost (spent) the money. If you spent the same amount on a used multicolor jem or universe then you'd be ahead, but you can also end up with someone else's headache if there are any problems with it.
I got my used UV777bk for 985 in fairly clean condition. The day I brought it home I changed the strings to what the guy said he had on it at the time, the bridge shifted hit the pickguard and cracked it and $200 later it was fixed. I ended up selling it for $1000.
Bottom line is, you can't expect to buy a new standard edition of any guitar now and expect it not to drop in value as long as they are still widely available new and used. If you buy a very limited edition guitar then you can come out ahead in a few years.
