This is my friend's guitar.
I've played it and it is very nice. It didn't really deserve the abuse it got in the other thread, he definitely isn't knowingly saying that it's great when it's crap and building it up to try and get a quick sale or anything like that, he isn't like that, he really likes it.
Plus, it isn't crap, it plays very well and the neck (fretboard) is worn but nice.
It is a very nice guitar to play but I agree the price is high, then again he's had to pay for the paint and the new pickups and then had to pay for the paint putting on, pickups replacing etc. so I can understand he wants to make some of his money back.
He's only selling it because he has to, it isn't 'a b
a
stard child piece of junk' as said in the other thread.
The work on it was all done really well and professionally.
The guy that he got to do it sets up my guitars as well and he's great.
It used to have some swiches for hotrails type blade pickups where the holes are, I don't know why he took out the switches really, he could have just disabled them.
Edit: Oh and Can someone please explain how you 'know' it has a 'cheap crappy RG270 neck'?
He's only posted 2 pictures of the neck, both from the front, and no dimensions of the neck and unless I'm missing it never mentions an RG270.
I actually am interested in how you could know this from just looking at the front of it from a distance.

What is it? A 550? Honestly you can't deny it's a mongrel, it's a good idea but it's poorly executed. The middle pickup hole just looks stupid.

I really don't even like the swirl.

I struck a deal with the seller at a level well under that amount and less than he paid for it back in July. Swirls are definitely a matter of personal taste but I kind of like this one. I've seen better but I've definitely seen worse. The neck and
fret board
do seem to have some decent flaming.
Got the scoop from the previous owner and am comfortable that it is as pictured, never mind the "near mint" term used in the description. Could it be in better shape or have a better swirl? Of course, but it's not like there are a lot of PMC's out there on the market these days.
Can't wait to see it.

If by mongrel you mean been put together from different parts then yes it has but if you mean put together from different parts and so it isn't very good/plays bad then no, there aren't any problems with it that I know of apart from the holes.
It didn't always have the holes etc.
Last year it was a whole guitar with no holes and it looked just like a normal guitar and it played great (still does.)
It used to have 1 humbucker and 2 hotrails (or maybe just 3 hotrails, I don't remember) and in the little holes on the body he had switches to coil-tap them.
Since then he's decided that he wants just 2 humbuckers and had the Tone Zone and Mo-Joe fitted, when he did that he decided to have all the switches and middle pickup taken out and just left the holes, I'm not sure why really.
I don't know what the neck is to be honest, I was just interested how anyone could know what kind of neck it was from having no dimensions and just looking at it from the front in a photo when I've played it and don't know.
If it didn't have the holes would you consider it good?
I think it's just the holes in the front that will put people off.
I think he should have listed as
Custom Ibanez
to be honest because I think they're all Ibanez and Dimarzio parts, it's just like an S with a 24
fret neck
, it plays great, it just has the holes and a high price.
I don't think he knows that the trem is considered a bad one, he doesn't come on forums and read up on this stuff, he'll just think "oh it stays in tune and works, what's the problem?"
I've never tried the trem becauase he's never had the whammy bar with him when I've tried it.

these are not going to fit old school joints or AANJ's are they?
1) theres no fretboard overhang.
2) the heel will come way out of an AANJ pocket.
anyone agree disagree... would have considered one if not for the absence of feedback for these items and the dubious (to me) looking heel area.

Yeah, there should definitely be fretboard overhang of some sort. Whether the photos are "progress photos" or not, I don't know. They might cut the overhang bit out for you if you ask them.
Aside from that though, they do look like quite nice necks from here. Theres no real way of telling properly from those smallish photos, but they look okay.

With a sales pitch like that, I can't believe I haven't bought it.
