New Evil-bay charges?

My girlfriend just told me that she saw a news report on TV that **** is now going to take 35% of every sale... is this true? I hope it's not. That would be horrible

Re: New Evil-bay charges?

if they did there is no chance I'd be using ****, and if they did people would either lose money when selling or charge more when selling so it is bad for any person that uses ****

Re: New Evil-bay charges?

Depending on what you sell and how your buyers pay, they already take something like 12-13%. They do gradually rise their fees, though. So who knows. I wish someone like Google built a competing service, but that's not gonna happen because *bay is their largest customer, and if they withdraw, GOOG will go titsup within 3 months.

Re: New Evil-bay charges?

They're going up....as of Feb,20.....but it's more like 3.5%. Not as bad as 35%,but still very aggravating. Myself,I'm thinking of just buying there, and selling here and a couple of other forums I go on.

Totally agree with the wish for Google or SOMEONE to start up a different auction site. Right now it's a monopoly........not good for anybody but the one who has the monopoly in place.

You forget 3% for paypal. Also, if whatever you sell sells for less than $50, you pay 8.5% of the final value.

Re: New Evil-bay charges?

From the email they sent me, they are lowering some fees such as insertion fees, gallery fees and some of the relativly inexpensive fees. What there raising is there ending fees. And as everyone knows thats the most expensive one. Basically there raising the ending fee from 3.5% of final sale to over 8%. Thats the basics, there are some little differences but thats the idea.

Re: New Evil-bay charges?

build the bay charge into you reserve. no prob there. refuse paypal unless buys pays fee. take money orders, let it clear then ship. no problem. doent matter how much the bay charges. like any business, you build the charges into the sale price and make the customer pay. that's how business works. you should always set a reserve, if it's $100, just make it $103.50. solved.

And they should!!! I really hate when sellers want to have you pay the paypal fee! that is called "The cost of doing business" and face it folks, people selling on the bay are making money off the sale at least most people...

Re: New Evil-bay charges?

the cost of doing business shoulndt cost the business owner EXTRA because the buyer wants to use a credit card. the charges should be charged to the buyer, not the seller. its the buyer that's has the convienience of buy something with plastic. just as the seller has variable charges for shipping and ins that change the final price, the paypal fee should also be an add. or like I said. the buyer can either pay extra to get it sooner, or mail a check and wait till the check arrives and clears.

Re: New Evil-bay charges?

They will pull the listing. I did that once and somebody ratted on me. Seems like I used to could get away with it, but they've really cracked down on that. Now, what you could do is say there is a 3% handling fee associated with the sale....or whatever percentage. And say that it covers the cost of shipping supplies and handling. That's what I'm going to start doing. They can't pull your listing for doing that.

But the problem will be that the cost of your item will be more and will be less attractive to buyers.

Build the 3 points in and offer a 3% discount for cashiers checks. It's the same with credit cards. By merchant rule you can't charge for them, but you can give a cash discount.
